Two (former) grail watches are here!

Finally, I was able to get my hands on two of my grail-watches or childhood icons! As a kid, I was always fascinated by two things: Race cars and outer space. My family introduced me to the world of watches at an early age, so the two watches were always an (unattainable) goal for me.

Since I have been more occupied with watches again and the financial possibilities have increased significantly, I could now buy them. 💸

The Speedy was too big for me for a long time and the professional generally too expensive for what it offers. The "normal" reduced never appealed to me particularly. The Tag Heuer Monaco was also rather too clunky in design and generally too big for me. Then I was able to find the perfect two watches in Japan via Chrono24.

The Speedy Day-Date has an interesting complication for me (calendar and chronograph), is with 39mm an ideal size and was in perfect condition. Was able to buy it for 1500CHF and sent it to Omega for service (900CHF). Now it is here, perfect inside and out, with 2 years warranty and a new Omega box including accessories.

The Monza is also a perfect size with its 38mm. In white I like it extremely good, came directly from the service, also looks perfect and also works perfectly. For 1600 CHF it was a great offer. With a leather/silicone strap it fits well, looks modern and sporty and is ready for any use. That Niki Lauda also had a Monza, was for me also a huge plus point over the Monaco 😜

Finally, I found the perfect icons for me in the used market, for the price of a new one. I would never have been satisfied with the new models and would have spent a lot more (or probably never bought). 🥰

white was also an option for me, but when I saw the Monza, it was clear to me that I wanted this combination (Monza in white, Speedy in classic black).🍻

I almost don't dare say it, but I almost like the Monza better than the Speedy. But I have to say that the Speedy does not look particularly good in pictures, but the surfaces are extremely beautifully finished in real life. The Monza is somewhat the "simpler" watch and shines with this.

I'm actually very familiar with both watches. Got to kick myself because I was offered a black dial monza chrono a while back for a very reasonable price and I turned it down. I had the watch in my paws and it was gorgeous. I have a speedy but I have may friends that have the speedy reduced.

Awesome watches and good story. I don’t know why more people don’t go the used route.

Congratulations on securing your grails mate.

For me it was also difficult at the beginning, especially over the Internet. But there the choice is the largest... Finally, I buy from private only watches below about 300 CHF.

The Omega and Tag Heuer (both over 1'500CHF) I bought only with right of return. Must also say that the Japanese are very honest about the condition of the watch and both have exceeded my expectation, do not know if I would buy from other countries so quickly.

For me also important the price: The watch must be, if it has no box & papers or no service, so far below the market price, as a service at the official brand costs. So that I can bring the watch to the service if necessary and it is still a fair deal. The Monza was 1.6k +450 (I was lucky it needs no service for the next 5-10 years, saved some money there), the Speedy was 1.5 +900 (no luck here, but it has now official 2y Omega-Warranty, an original box ankd other documents).

I also have a Longines Weems from 1995 (limited edition) in the pipeline. It was about 500 +400 (which is a lot), but I was really in love with the watch and its just a little above the market price. Still waiting for it to return from Saint-Imier 😜
