Hand made watch cabinet

For 35 years I only had one watch โ€“ a Rolex Submariner I bought in memory of my Dad, but when COVID hit, I did what a lot of people did, and went boredom shopping on-line.

I soon discovered the fascinating world of watches and the wanna-be engineer in me loved the different complications that are available in watches, so I decided to collect watch complications โ€“ GMT, Diver, Regulator dial, power reserve and so on.

It didnโ€™t take me long to find Jomashop but oh, did I spend time there! It took weeks of research, hand-rubbing and intellectual masturbation before I chose the perfect first watch for my collection.

Two or three years later and my lust for watches outgrew my โ€œMade in Amazonโ€ watch boxes, and I knew that I had to do something before I ended up penniless, sleeping on cardboard outside an Authorized Dealer, with my watches in a shopping trolley. ย

I decided to build a watch case that could only accommodate 30 watches, that way Iโ€™m forced by real estate to limit my compulsion. If I want another watch, Iโ€™ll have to sell one first. And, as some of my early choices were, letโ€™s say, a learning experience, I donโ€™t see that as a problem. Buying four 39mm watches sight unseen was very silly in retrospect, when a 42mm suits me better! They are nice watches though.

One of my many hobbies is furniture making, and so I designed and built this cabinet. Made from Cherry with Purpleheart accents, Iโ€™m very happy with the way it suits my dรฉcor and coddles my collection.
