Three Windup Codas

So, now that it's all over, here are all few small follow-ups.

I didn't buy a watch, but I did buy a clock. It does the Mondaine Stop2Go thing, where the seconds hand pauses for two seconds at the top of every minute, the minute hand jumps to the next minute, and it continues. This is the newer version that runs on wifi, and has a smooth sweeping seconds hand. The older version ran on Bluetooth with your phone, and the seconds hand ticked like a quartz watch. I really like the smooth sweep. Truth be told, I think it's overpriced, but hey, every watch is overpriced, considering you don't need it; this is a bit of fun horology. When I'm not staring at my wrist I can stare at the wall.

And here is the Watchcrunch NATO, given out at the Saturday evening meetup, on the SARB017 Alpinist. The T-shirt is from last year. I wore the shirt biking up and down Manhattan last weekend, so apologies, it's not cleanest it's ever been. Thanks @Max for kitting us out with Watchcrunch swag!

This is the original v. 1 Lorier Hyperion I bought in December 2021. I was both excited and a little regretful when they announced the newest version, now sporting the new Miyota travelers GMT movement, and a 2mm shorter case with a new bracelet. And it's $200 cheaper, I presume due to the Miyota vs. Swiss Soprod. I want a travelers GMT with a rotating bezel, so the new one would fit the bill. I tried the new more compact case last year, and it wore nicely. I got to try the newest one this year, and what I didn't realize was that it's a good bit thicker, and wears chunkier. It's by no means terrible, but it lacks much of the slim, wrist-conforming elegance of the original. And I noticed they pulled a bit of a trick. They list the thickness of both at 10.7mm, but for the original they included the 2mm domed crystal, for the current version they do not. Lesson learned: it pays to try a watch in the flesh whenever possible. I'm now much happier that I have the OG. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect travelers GMT; it might be the Longines Zulu Time 39mm, eventually.

Likewise! It was a privilege to meet the legend. As I said, on social media, loud=legendary.

Was awesome chatting at the meetup! That GS was a proper drop-the-mic watch. 😎

Is the nato strap available for purchase somewhere?
