Which one for a lifer?
I have a big anniversary coming up and a portion of the tax refund I’m authorized to spend. My good friend loaned me my final contenders. Seiko SPB143 and 185.
First impressions…
Wish the 143 was just black instead of the grey. I had a 147 and sold it because I didn’t bond with the brown. This is much more to my taste, but still with for black. That said, fits me a bit better and is more versatile. Also, bracelet options even though the stock one is fine enough.
The 185 is the looker to me. Love the steel bezel, but would I in a few years? Definitely want a forever watch here. Also, bracelet fit ain’t great and no aftermarket options are available.
Watch enthusiast in upstate New York. Mostly Seiko and Casio but dabble in higher end from time to time.

i looked at a few of your WRUW and you have a few 4 o'clock crown seikos already so maybe the 143? on the other hand i personally would choose the 185 because i love the case, hands and steel bezel
143 is a better watch. You could always mod the bezel insert easily.

Ultimately comes down to which one you like the look of. Personally, I dislike the "straight" endlink/case bottom shape of the SPB143/62MAS, so it'd be the SPB185 any day.

I asked the same exact question a couple of years ago. I was between these two and an SPB313. I went with the 143. Between the size, wearability, and looks, it’s really the only correct choice.
spb143 all the way, just make sure the lume pip at 12 is aligned properly on yours
