Collection goals

When do you want to stop collecting? What is your target number? Right now, I got 7 watches and I wouldn't mind if it just stop here, even though. I'm more into building my rings collection.

I'll stop collecting as soon as they stop making watches I like. 👍

I never put a target number on my collecting.

The objective was to explore and enjoy myself in this one thing after I had taken care of all my responsibilities to family and so on. Eventually I ended up with quite an impressive haul. Parts of my collection drew attention. A Collected Man interviewed me under my nom de plume. Hodinkee enquired but thankfully didn't follow up.

Then I reached a tipping point, after which the fall off in interest became quite steep. Crucially, other things happening in life became more important. That pushed watches down the order of priority.

Fast forward and I now have about one tenth of the watches I had in the middle of 2022. It's a small collection made up of low key watches. This new normal feels just right.

I’m currently at 5 watches. It feels about right with me , everything gets wrist time and serves a purpose in my crazy watch mind!! At one point I had around 10 but it bothered me that a some just sat in the watch box so I gifted a few to my sons and I love seeing them wear the watches regularly. Going forward I’m going to try and stick to a “one in , one out “ rule 👍🏼

I dont plan on stopping at a certain number itll mostly be one beut after another until i find the absolute beut!

Tough to say for sure but I'm very close, at least for the time being. There isn't much more wrist time available and I'm very happy with what I own. Right now I have 15 total watches and 9 of those I consider my core collection. I have my eye on one more and I think I better stop. When I retire maybe I make some moves and downsize to move upstream but if that never happened I'd be totally happy.

This is my box as it stands today. I have another two automatics coming to take the places from the Moonswatches. I've got another 1 or 2 in mind to add, but at that point, I'll need another storage solution.

It's to get to the one-watch/two-watch nirvana, wear the heck out of them, and say 30 years from now, look at all these cool watches that show my personal history!

Yeah man, and that is the most beautiful thing about collecting.

the more you have, the more you want 🤣🤣🤣

For me it’s not about collecting, but about having a watch appropriate for every purpose and occasion. That can be satisfied with four to five watches for me. Are there other watches that I find attractive and would like to own? Yes. Can I justify their purchase? No. But I’m happy for others who have larger collections. To each their own.

Totally agree with this. I'm looking for one or two watches that really speak to me

I only tend to wear 4 of my watches regularly, 2 more than most (out of a collection of 8) and I'm slowly upgrading, with an aim of 6 posh ones.
