I think the entire Citizen 'group' are stepping up their games.
In addition to Citizen, we've seen some interesting releases from Frederique Constant, Alpina, Bulova and Accutron over the past year or so. And Miyota has improved on existing and has released some excellent new movements as of late.
In my eyes, Citizen appears to have a adopted a focused strategy, something akin to what the Swatch Group is doing with its brands. We are seeing an increased sharing of resources, knowledge and marketing - and this will only help the Citizen group.
Do I think they are "beating" Seiko? No. But I am very much liking their offerings and recently purchased a Prodiver.
As far as I know Citizen is a larger watch manufacturer than Seiko and has been for a while. They just have a terrible marketing strategy and for the most part their design language is a bit lacking.
I can't say that they "beat" Seiko because I'm not sure that this is their goal. If it was then they should invest more in Bulova and use their brand name recognition to crush Seiko in the USA market, and lets be real - this is simply not happening.
Citizen seem to be improving, and unfortunately seiko seem to he doing the opposite. Main thing seiko have going for them is finishing brand and style. Citizen have shown they can match seiko at finishing, and recently their designs seem to be improving too. Am interested to see what developments happen next, mad world where citizen (pr orient) might be the new seiko

Great looking watch! Does it have sapphire or mineral crystal?
I Dont know if they are beating Seiko. All I know is that Seiko makes better watches in my opinion.
I recently handled that Citizen Titanium Promaster. The bezel action on that thing is horrible, too much backplay, and sounds cheap.Although I can xee myself buying a Tsuyosa.

I believe Citizen sells more units than Seiko, and has for a while.
My impression is that the perception of Seiko "dominance" is entirely in the eyes of Seiko fans and influencers.
They are beating seiko in quartz for sure. They are still relatively niche for automatic though.
I think there are many competitors to both Citizen and Seiko than just each other, but since you ask:

You could say that, but Seiko have picked up the game recently with the new GMT releases.

It's a mineral crystal.
It's a mineral crystal.
