Speedmaster '57 Price Difference

So in my attempt to create my previous infographic, I came across a very interesting observation. The folks in the US have a retail price of the new Speedmaster '57 that is cheaper than the previous version.

Meanwhile, in other major markets like Switzerland, Germany and United Kingdom, the prices difference is positive.

PS: Just to be clear, these are all actual listed prices from Omega's website taken today as both versions still co-exist in the catalogue.

Anyone have any hypothesis on what may be the reason for this?

Taxes? 🤷 Brexit, VAT etc all contribute to my watch buying misery in the UK. Have there been tax changes in the US?

Not sure actually - good point. Might need a fellow enthusiast from the States to tell us!

Sales taxes in the U.S. are set by state and local authorities.  But, otherwise, no major changes that I'm aware of.

Exchange rate fluctuations?

The strange thing is these are current listed prices of both watches on the website - and I don't think there were any major shifts between CHF/USD over the past few months. Ah well, maybe it's just neutralisation since the previous model's price seemed oddly high anyway!
