commented on Rolex is not part of the Holy Trinity...not even close! ·

The term Holy Trinity dates back to the 70's, according to WatchBox

https://www.thewatchbox.com/blog/holy-trinity-watches.html#:~:text=the%20Overseas%20collection.-,What%20Brands%20Make%20Up%20The%20Holy%20Trinity%20of%20Watches%3F,Patek%20Philippe%2C%20and%20Vacheron%20Constantin.

This is long time before a lot of modern independent watch makers who make even more complicated, more sophisticated, more innovative watches than AP/PP/VC. Just 3 places are not going to fit these brands.

And if you want heritage alongside high-horology, we're also living in a special era of watch making, where a lot of 100+ YO brands are revived, rejuvenated financially and hence making some ultra-complicated watches with an 18xx, 17xx name on it. Still you probably need 10+ places to fit them all.

So we can debate about the new top N watchmakers, but to me AP/PP/VC deserve to stay as Holy Trinity, for the fact that they were doing an excellent job back in the 70's, the last era of pure mechanical watchmaking before Quartz Crisis, before all those M&A by investors and big groups, before marketing over watchmaking, and certainly before the influence of hype and flex culture we have today.

In the name of Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin,Amen.

commented on IWTF? The 2023 IWC Ingenieur is priced way out of its league. ·

thanks for pointing it out, I wasn't aware the IWC32111 is ETA based with in-house tweek. I wouldn't call it ETA out right but yeah not a true in-house.

Whether the new Ingenieur is a flip or flop, value preposition is not a huge factor IMO, but rather how hard IWC or Richemont push this model, how many journalists/reviewers/youtubers are getting paid to praise it and therefore hype it for the consumers.

Plenty of good value watches sitting in the window out there, plenty of poor value watches that are hyped up and selling over-retail, I thought we're already used to it?

commented on GP doing better or ...? ·

whether you like the Laureato or not, I hope this line up can succeed and become the financial back bone for the brand. With the cash flow from Laureatos then GP can produce the more artisan products.

commented on [GP Laureato] What do you think about the new Laureato 38mm Copper? ·

As a potential buyer of the Laureato 38, my only hesitation is the movement:

GP3300 is a dress watch movement dating back to the 90's? With only 46 hours of power reserve, I imagine there's not much update to it? Anyone who can share some info about it is much appreciated.

thanks for posting this!

shopping around for an integrated sports watch lately, Laureato 38 is top contender at the moment. Not so many reports on them, especially this copper colour!
