GP doing better or ...?

I have always been a fan of GP no matter what ppl say about Royal Oak copy etc. The brand delivers quality at a fair price and some gorgeous designs. With the recent management buyout of the brand what do you think , its going places or still not interesting ?

GP has a great reputation.  Management buyout tells me that the people with the best inside information believe in the company with their own money.  So yes, I think they are likely to grow the brand.

I didn't see any that I thought was good looking.

The one you posted isn't terrible but I wouldn't pay 300 bucks for it and certainly not 15 grand.

The printed logo reminds me of the back side of the Victorinox aluminum pocket knives.

And the 12 marker makes the watch more messy. That should be in the standard logo position instead of the printed one.

I'm not saying I hate it. I just don't see the value and the design feels not very well thought out.

·

Also the brand identity seems a bit confused. That one watch has three logos just on the top half of the watch.

Do u like royal oak?

GP is a high horology company that also produces a sports watch. This is quite similar to AP and Patek, but it’s at a significantly reduced retail price, and you can actually purchase one.

I think the management buy out will be positive. You will see them manufacture watches that people want to buy and high horology watches that take more chances.

But what do you think of the management buy out?

They need to advertise the Orion and the bridges more. They do make great watches no matter what ppl say . Plus them personally putting their money means they believe they can turn it around

Yeah, this is something that I see as a way management can solidify the brand identity.  Streamlining and focusing is often the first thing that comes with new ownership.  Best example of this of recent history is Breitling.

Girard Perregaux is one of the great high horology Swiss watch brands. They are easily recognized by the 3 bridges architecture in most of their movements.  I love the fact that they have affordable models to compliment their unobtainable ones.  If new management commits to both to lines I think they will do well.

I agree great brand . There is an archie luxury video on YouTube about them. I don't get it why this guys keeps bashing everyone except rolex , ap or patek especially if they don't hold resale value.  These watches aren't for ppl who r thinking to resell them , it's for ones that just want to stand out .

·

Hey, as long as you like it and it makes you happy... that's all that maters. 😎👍⌚

To answer your question, in the business world when management purchases a company (from within), it's a good sign. It shows that they have confidence and belive in the brand's potential.

·

I'm not sure how high-end they are though, you can get the same movement in some NOS/mint Ebel 1911s and E-Types from the late 90s to mid 2000s for sonwhere between 20% and 10% of the price, that's a 5x (!) markup and those Ebels are very well made (semi-) integrated steel sports watches.

Which movement is that?

·

I don’t see anything about this brand that justifies the cost. Most of them look like overpriced Citizens, and $15k for a Royal Oak* copy is highway robbery. 🤷‍♂️

*Which is stupidly overpriced itself.

·

Good brand and love the 38mm in the original post and they have some very cool pieces in the rest of their lineup.  I think the Laureato line needs like a 20% price reduction across the board.

·

Didn't know that . Thanks for the info

Oh that one is too. I was just trying to stay on topic.

Haha I agree .tbh this is the same question I have been asking . What constitutes value and for what reason we pay 10k for a steel watch...

·

I've no idea what they are trading for now, but I've tried on a few Laureatos in the past that were very nicely made for $10-12k.

Not my taste, but I could certainly see choosing that as my "that kind of watch", given the $ advantage against some of the slightly nicer but WAY more expensive competition.

·

whether you like the Laureato or not, I hope this line up can succeed and become the financial back bone for the brand. With the cash flow from Laureatos then GP can produce the more artisan products.

·

People often forget that GP is one of the oldest watchmakers still going. It's so overlooked it's ridiculous.
