Christopher Ward Trident Pro 300

At the tail end of 2022, I was in the market for black dialed dive watch that would replace the handful of Seikos that I was rotating through.

I narrowed my search down to an Axios Flagship, Baltic Aquascaphe, Doxa 200, Mido Oceanstar Heritage, Certina PH200M, and Seiko 62Mas. After much deliberation, I chose the Christopher Ward Trident Pro 300 in 40mm on the bracelet.

All of the following is why this watch has killed my interest in other dive watches:

It’s only 11.3mm thick, making it thinner than all but one of my mechanical watches.

It has a sapphire sandwich, making it robust while allowing me to appreciate the internals.

The bezel is polished ceramic with a stationary brushed steel ring where the glass meets the bezel. It’s marked with second/minute intervals. It’s a unique design seen on the initial Omega Seamaster 300 reissue and also on the Serica 5303. It’s a nice little detail that I appreciate. The scratch resistant ceramic on the bezel put it above the Mido, Doxa, and Seiko.

Whenever I wear a watch with no date, I wish it had a date. Unfortunately I really dislike an asymmetrical dial, so 3’oclock date windows is something I put up with rather that appreciate. The Seiko does it well because the marker at 9 almost perfectly matches the date aperture in shape and size. Despite that, date at 6 is preferred. Axios and Chris Ward do this.

Lastly, I live in a pretty humid environment and wrist swelling is something I have to deal with. The on-the-fly microadjust on the Mido and Chris Ward is a killer feature to me, despite ultimately pairing an Eulit 2-piece Perlon strap with my choice. Mido and Chris Ward offers this.

The thinness, materials, date location, micro-adjust clasp, in addition to the unique case design and hands is why I chose the Trident. Since then, whenever a dive watch gets my attention, I compare it to what’s currently on my wrist to see what I’d be giving up to to get it. More often than not, to satisfy all of my requirements that this watch currently does, I’d have to pay a considerable sum and that’s that.

Very good choice..💯

You don't have to talk me in to this watch!

You state a good case. I couldn't agree more.

Which size did you choose?

(Looks to me like a 42mm)

·

A great choice and a proper reasoned argument for getting one over other contenders. CW was going to be my next purchase at Christmas but I've just blown the budget on Circula titanium divesport whichvI saw in person and had to have!

But the CW remains an objective and your one looks simply 😍 stunning!

Very nice description and detail.

·

Great looking modern diver.

·

Although I wasn't narrowing it down from the same selection, I agree with all your reasons. I feel I made the correct decision (38mm White) and yours looks great too. Enjoy it.

Those trident hands are fire!

·

Fuego!

·

Great rationale though the dive watch hasn't been made yet that could kill my interest in all other divers. I guess I'm just a little sick like that.😅

·

They are great watches that will last you for years to come, well researched choice sir 👏🏻👏🏻

I preferred the vintage style and no date so my pick was the Dartmouth

Very nice. I love the mid century look. I was really aiming for a retro diver but the Trident pulled me right off track.

Those hands are awesome. I’d love it if they brought those back. The dial is mesmerizing

If was to impulse buy a dive watch, it would be the white dialed Trident. It’s so crisp! That would look so good on grey Perlon.

I hear you. I have a wandering eye when it comes to watches. Frequent strap swaps have kept me in the honeymoon phase though.

Thanks for your kind words sir, I totally agree with your comments my wife bought it me as a surprise gift for our 30th wedding anniversary and gave it me just as we traveled to our holiday for our anniversary celebration, as I had pointed out to her that I love both the colour and the texture of the dial and the shape of the hands, I’m a diver fan so this one will always be with me!

It’s a great watch that keeps superb time and wears very well either on the CW tropic strap or the bracelet I cannot recommend them enough👍🏻💙

At some point I will add another CW to the collection, maybe the Cranwell or maybe a sealander /dune.

Perfect combo. The orange in the strap make the orange on the dial really pop. I love it.
