Looking for my first watch, Just an everyday. Somthing that will last me for many years to come. I'm quite indecisive so I was hoping this platform could help me and introduce me to new brands, Budget £600 was looking at the hamilton khaki feild, Baltic mr01 but what I realy want Is a Christopher Ward in bronze bit out of my price range tho :)

Are there any features that you consider to be must-haves?

Are there any design elements that you love / hate?

Khaki Field is a great place to start. Very solid watch.

+1 it depend on what features you want too. If you want a rotating timing Bezel - look into dive watches. If you want to track a 2nd time zone - GMT ect. Casios are always fun and affordable.

General advice: continue your research like you're doing and don't rush into any large purchases. YouTube watch reviews are a great resource as well as WatchCrunch.

I would not shy away from a gently used anything. I was able to get a used Christopher Ward Aquitaine GMT for under $900 USD that looked like it was sized but never worn. Once you start though you will be suprised how these larger price tags don’t seem as unattainable as before (in reason).

I'll give you some go anywhere do anything alternatives since I don't really know what you are looking for at what price range.

Mechanical/automatic between $150-$300:

Seiko 5 sports, lots of options including diver style and more dressy.

Orient: Bambino or Symphony for dress, or really good divers like the Kamasu and Kano.

Quartz:

G-Shock square or Casioak, both around or under $100, although consider the Bluetooth solar Casioak for around $150

Quartz Tissot PRX

Mechanical/automatic between $400-800

Hamilton Khaki field

Tissot PRX or Gentleman

Tissot Seastar diver

Quartz in the same price range:

Longines Conquest or Hydroconquest

I have the khaki field mechanical and momentarily owned the baltic Mr01. Imho i feel the khaki field is a better made watch, as it feels more solid and robust comparing to the mr01.

I’m not saying baltic makes inferior quality watch *i still owned the baltic aquascaphe and still wears it as a daily driver

I’ve never handled a christopher ward but i seen many rave on it both on YouTube channels and WC. I assume they do make good watches as it seems they are really exploring spaces which mainstream brands doesn’t like the recent bel canto. Would like to see one in the flesh someday.

For me in your situation if i really want a watch immediately it would be the khaki field. But i would saved a little longer to get the CW since its something i wanted more. Just my 2 cents😅

I do quite like the c65 in bronze I might save a bit longer and get that, what do you think of bronze as a case material my reasoning behind it is because it's my first watch I want it to age with me

What is the best place to get used CW's?

I personally purchased the watch I am talking about on EBay, there is also Chrono24, different forums, and Reddit if your feeling adventurous.

Realy like big crowns and am a sucker for applied hour markers 😂

I LOVE my 38mm Khaki Automatic.

But that’s just one guy whom you don’t know.

Look through a few days’ worth of WRUW posts here, write down the ones you like, then look them up. Look for reviews. Get a sense of the market and a sense of the reviewers.

Then ask specific questions on here.

PS the leather strap that comes with the Hamilton is absolute garbage (that they sell separately for $100). So the bracelet version is the better purchase, even if you want to put it on leather or canvas or whatever.

·

Maybe something to consider is why you want a watch. What do you want it to do? What activities do you intend on doing while wearing it? For example, if you are a track cyclist and you want to time your laps, you could either choose a quartz watch with a stopwatch function, or a much more expensive chronograph. If you travel a lot and need to track different timezones then a GMT may be what you need.

Personally i’m not a big fan of bronze. But of course to each of it’s own. Definitely a go ahead if you like it!
