Tissot PRX Quartz 35mm Review

This was an unexpected purchase. This is my first Swiss quartz watch and my first watch with an integrated bracelet.

I had bought a Tissot Swissmatic and I was not satisfied with the purchase. I returned it. It was during the return process I heard the news about Tissot launching the 35mm version of the PRX. I contacted the AD about the stock. It was available at a very good launch deal. I instantly purchased it in my preferred blue color.

Unboxing a future classic:

The moment I unboxed it, two things struck me -

  1. This is a future classic despite being a reissue.

  2. Rolex Oysterquartz is now in my wishlist.

The build quality:

The metal is well brushed. The edges are well done. No rough surfaces or edges. The links are adquate (thanks to the 35mm size, although I wish there was a better sizing mechanism). This watch will last for a really long time. I like how the light plays on the brushed surface, although it gets flashy soon, which I'm not really fond of.

The movement:

This is a three jeweled ETA F05.115 Swiss movement, that costs about $25 on several sites. I expected something a lot more premium like precidrive and I would have gladly paid for it. I am nitpicking at this point as this movement really has no problems for it's usage. I am not able to find it's accuracy so if you know, please let me know. This has EOL and shock resistance and for my usage, those are enough. On my watch, the seconds hand hits all the markers perfectly. Job well done.

The dial and the design:

The retro design is unique and if there's anything that's better than this in my view, it's the Oysterquartz from Rolex. I'm in love with the design. I have had onlookers ask about it as well. It's a stylish piece that attracts a wide range of people. I use it for both casual and formal looks. It slides into the cuff easily. The 100m water resistance is enough for me to take it in rains. The lume is just ok and boring. It's suffcient to read the time when you enter dark spaces. Perhaps the larger 40mm model has better lume. That's the last of my considerations anyway.

The comfort and wearability:

So glad it is in 35mm, it's supremely comfortable and light. One can wear it all day without feeling it's presence. It's suited for small wrists. For anyone with a 6.5 inch wrist or above, please go for the larger 40mm model. The light quartz movement is an important reason this watch is light, slim and wearable.

After experiencing the goodness of the quartz watches(which are hated way too unnecessarily world over), the scales tipped to favor quartz in my collection. I now have more quartz watches than mechs/autos in my collection. This watch is one of the important reasons that tipped the scale. It is also the reason I want a Rolex Oysterquartz - the true ancestor of the PRX. This is going to stay in my collection long term.

I have the same feelings about mine. The design is well-executed, and that's where this watch shines. The F06.115 movement is simply entry-level. It will work reliably, but even the Ronda movements I find in some microbrands would have been an upgrade.

I think the movement is meant to be a work horse and as a quartz one, it delivers on the expected accuracy in this price range. If Tissot ever releases a high accuracy/grade quartz version of this watch, I'll think about upgrading but it ll also stop selling in the mass market. The prx is meant to be a mass market watch and I don't think such upgrades will happen easily. We never know tbh.

I've had better experiences with, let's say, a Ronda 1069 in about the same price category. (I'm not sure if the form factor would have worked, which might have also been a limiting factor for the 35mm models.)

My partner had it on the wrist at the jeweler this weekend. Green one. Personally I find the price too steep. Recommended the citizen tsuyoya in what color he fancies. But mind set on the Tissot which is 100 euros more expensive.

Try eBay and Amazon for better prices :)

I always set a max. Calculate in the price at retailer. The bid. The auction fee with percentage AND shipping. eBay articles lot's of times are located in import tax countries. Amazon are on occasion cheaper. Sometimes I use the US store. (for my Casio Duro's and hard to get AE series) Standard I get 15% discount on a local watch store. It all depends. Some dive stores have great prices.

Looks nice,I went with autos because I preferred waffle dials,in this model

That's a great watch, congrats on your purchase! I will have to compare the 35 vs 40 to see which I like better for my 6.75" wrist.

I'm curious though, which Swissmatic did you return and why?

Thank you. 35mm ll look real vintage on your wrist and 40mm ll be just about 'fit'...I'd still go with the 35mm. The 40mm is quite oversized for this watch's retro style.

I got the Tissot Swissmatic T1164073709100. I returned it because the Saphhire crystal disappointed me - too reflective and formed a white ring along it's circumference.

I also came to know that the movement is not serviceable but mostly ll be swapped out. I can buy a much more accurate and good looking watch in quartz instead of spending that much on this kind of service. With PRX and Casio Tough Solar watches, I started moving towards Quartz more.

Because of PRX, I now want a Rolex Oysterquartz 😄 The Swissmatic did not inspire me like this 🙂

Ah, I have the quartz Gent XL and recently loved it more with a new strap:

And a Swissmatic, which is one of my favorite watches. I'm not concerned about the movement, it keeps excellent time and I'm sure it will last a good while:

I'm glad you're happy with the PRX, getting one is on my wish list. Thanks for posting yours, as I didn't know there was a 35mm option. 🍻

Your watches look great! It's just that I prefer ETA Autos from Tissot more and expected better hardware. Good luck with your PRX purchase.

I have the 40mm in blue that I love and I'll probably get a 35mm in the white/silver dial with rose gold indices or..... Go fully 70s funky and get the PVD gold one 🤪
