I have this unusual way to build my watch collection. To me, my watches not only need to make sense individually and be a coherent part of the whole collection but I also like to rearrange them into sub-collections that also make sense by themselves. With that approach, I can mentally have several collections and all of them reflect me, my life, and my taste.
For example, I chose my 3 most prized watches not only because they are, IMO, great individually and they fit perfectly into my collection but also because they represent, what I believe, be 3 of the most prestigious watch brands that a "normal human" can have.

Cartier:
Grand Seiko:
The way I see it, other options in this reasonable holy trinity approach could be JLC, Omega, and Nomos.
With these same watches, I can also mimic those old Mr. Porter videos of having a watch to Work on, another to Rest, and another to Play.
Here is one of these Mr. Porter videos:

Yeah, I saw your post another day and I loved your collection!
Ps. Exactly the same work rest and play. Though I genuinely do office work in the Cartier as leather strap better for typing.
Probably the Grand Seiko comes out most often. I just love it and what a bargain!

I’m planning on moving to the next level starting with the Speedmaster. Leaning towards Santos and Pelagos to follow.
