GrandSeiko with flaws

GrandSeiko is all about the quality finishing of the case/dial/hands.

But has any of you experienced getting a brand new GS with visible dents/scratches on its hands?

I purchased my SBGN005 from an AD last Oct. Immediately after the purchase, as it is a quartz watch, I realised some misalignment of the seconds hand.

It was sent back to Japan and took around 4 months to fix the seconds hand issue. Only after a few days getting the watch back, to my surprise I saw some weird reflection on the hour hand (on both ends). With close inspection on a loupe, those were scratches/tiny dents on the brushed surface.

disappointment is all I feel right now. I have never thought that GS is so careless with their finishing. I was very patient for the last service to fix the seconds hand but having only just sent it back to their studio in Japan and realised they did not spot and fix the obvious scratches on the hour hand is just not acceptable. I also suspect whether the scratches were made during this service or was there beforehand.

I'm considering to bring it to the AD for support. Seems like a 2nd trip to Jap is inevitable, unless i can bear to live with them...

Please share your experience with GS. Is it just me having a bad day...😢

My Reverso came back from servicing with a few new scratches on the case. I've learned more than a few times that service centers aren't always as careful as they should be and sometimes introduce new issues to the watch. It's never a fun experience.

Wow, very sorry to hear this. I have three GS watches, and they have had no issues in presentation or performance for me. However, I have had a poor experience with a Ball watch. Time regulation quickly became poor a few months after my purchase and I returned it thru my AD to Ball. Servicing took ~5 months, and when they watch was returned time regulation was better, but not great and there was a oil spot on the inside of the crystal right above the date window. The AD then stated they were having problems with Ball servicing and with my permission had their own expert look at it. A few weeks later came back clean and well regulated. So, this stuff does happen and I’ve been become quite a fan of my local AD. I would  see what the AD can do for you.

Hope it's still under warranty!  That is really unfortunate.  Own 2 GS and each are immaculately finished.  So sorry to hear about your experience.

be sure to complain to your AD and ask for a discount on your next watch.

Absolutely unacceptable for this caliber watch. GS dropped the ball in a huge way.

I'm presuming (as from an AD) that it was new when purchased. Surely it's got to be a full refund or new replacement?

Yes it was a brand new watch from the AD.

I still want to keep it, so hopefully a new replacement without charges..
