my review of the seiko dolce sacm171 - a timeless little jdm piece

hey fellow watch lovers,

when I first came across my the seiko dolce sacmq71, it was hard not to be drawn to its understated elegance. not your typical men's watch, this jdm offering is a compact 33.5mm across and only 5.3mm thick. a japanese calatrava?

what really inspired my interest was its high-accuracy thermocompensated quartz movement, delivering a staggering accuracy of about 10 seconds a year. it uses the 8j41 movement formerly used in the grand seiko range and which can still be found in some credor watches.

for those of us who value precision, this is a significant draw.

visually, it's a pretty little thing. the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, a stainless steel case, designed and polished sword hands that make this a cut above. the cap-covered second hand is an upmarket touch, and the textured face is subtlety beautiful.

one of my favorite things about this watch is that despite its small size, it still stands out. it's the perfect dress watch, slipping easily under a cuff with its ultra-thin profile.

the 33.5mm diameter could be a deal-breaker for some. on my 19cm wrist, it looks a tad small. also, the italian 'dolce' label and the onyx jewel on the crown seemed a bit misplaced on this a japanese watch.regardless, the sacm171 is niche piece that showcases the best of japanese watchmaking. it is ultra-thin, accurate, and finished to perfection.

as a proud owner, my experience has been positive. if you're considering a new dress watch, don't overlook this one - it's got timeless charm.

I imported this example new for £326 including shipping and taxes!

I have this also. I dont wear it too much however it has lost about 1/2 second over about 10 month. Its the watch i set all my watches too. Apparently thise in the factory think that this is a better movement than the 9f. No idea if thats true or not however its specs are 10sec/year and mine is far better than this. Perhaps just lucky. Size wise a couple of mill bigger would be good however i like to wear to work in winter.

Wait, a proper watch for normal indoor adult humans with some refinement is still being made, and relatively affordably? Why does Japan hate foreigners so? Maybe we deserve it.

Can anyone confirm that it's actually onyx on the crown?
