For the people who are like "why G-shock?" You see them on the wrist of American serviceman, paramedics, police officers, etc. The ones who are out there getting it done often choose G-Shock.
For me, "American" watches have changed. For the current state of watches I actually think the most "American" watches are the microbrand. I think it's the romantic idea that an individual can pursue a dream and do better than the big guys and that the possibilites for what you create are endless. I feel like the ethos of the microbrand as a concept strikes to the core of American culture.
Islander, Brew, Haim watch company, Astor and Banks, Oak and Oscar are some great microbrands that are American owned
Gruen. They used to be built in Cincinnati, but their movements came from Switzerland. For this reason, during the Second World War, the U.S. Govt. awarded the watch contract to companies like Hamilton and Benrus. But it turned out the joke was on them. This was a disastrous military decision. If the government had awarded the contract to Gruen instead, we would have won that stinking war.
