Is a Swatch essential?

A lot of watch collectors have a Casio digital or G-Shock in their collection. It almost feels mandatory! Is having a Swatch as important?

I think Casio is very essential for pop-culture:

what other brand can sell you a watch under 50 bucks and be that popular?

Casio does feel almost mandatory, and as of right now, I do not have one.

Swatch as a brand, isn't even in the same league as Casio.

So for me, there's your answer.

I dont think there is any essential watch. Buy what you like and try not to get ripped off.

No brand is mandatory.

I suspect most people vote no because groupthink demands all pretend that Casio is somehow different or more special than all of the other affordable brands. They aren't, but that doesn't stop the silliness.

I suppose there is also the issue that it's hard to LARP as a cool guy from an action movie, while wearing a pink Swatch...

I think a Casio is a must. I used to own a couple swatches back in high school. One was a Swatch Chrono and one was an Automatic. Swatches used to make good watches but I feel like they really gone downhill for the past two decades. I know you WCs won’t believe me but i never own a Casio before. It is not because I don’t like them but I just want to limit the size of my collection.

I bought a full metal G-Shock. I didn’t really like it that much so my wife put it into her rotation. She also bought herself a couple of Baby Gs. I don’t have any Casio in my rotation.

I bought a few NOS Swatches from the 90’s from the back of my AD’s safe a while ago but nobody wears them. I won’t bring another Swatch into the house.

My poll answer is No. Nothing is required. I don’t feel the need for either although technically I have them available in my house.

I think they offer the best value overall. You get well made, highly functional, in many cases good looking watches for a very decent, reasonable price. I dont think there is any other brand that offers such a great package for such a low price. Maybe skmei, but theyre just copying Casio so...

Nothing is essential. Your collection, your rules.

Everyone I ask outside of the watch enthusiasts bubble thinks G-shock are juvenile gaudy oversized plastic monsters on the wrist that look good on no one. Yet there's this weird cult following for them...

If its in the same league as Casio, the answer must be YES

I do not own or aspire to for either brand. I save my dollars because I do buy quite a few watches each year but not Casio or Swatch.
