Looking for a do-it-all single watch travel pouch

I’ll preface by saying I do a fair amount of work travel, and over the last few years, I’ve grown to have a core travel group for watches, but struggle with cases for travel.

I travel with one watch on my wrist, and a second watch in a small single watch case. Within the case, could be an extra strap and a cleaning cloth for one of the two watches. Typically I have one watch that’s on a bracelet, and another on leather or a strap. I normally bring a small leather valet to rest a watch if I need.

Here is what I currently use:

Leatherology Travel Watch Case: This is working "okay" but it's not without it's faults. First, the zipper is exposed which you risk scratching the watch. Second, it's not made to display a watch per say, like the options below. Third, it's not tall, so any watches over say, 13mm thick won't work well.

Image

What I’d like to get, is a single watch case that can accomplish the following:

  1. Showcase the second watch with the case open (but also close up and store if needed)

  2. Store the watch, an extra strap, and cleaning cloth when traveling

  3. Potentially double as a surface for having a watch sit on the table with a removable part of the case, or part of the roll itself

There are a few contenders, and my thoughts on each:

Q Hexagonal Single Watch Roll on Amazon: This seems to be what I need, but I may need to get a two watch configuration because of the ability to store cleaning cloth and extra straps unless those would fit into the single watch roll.

Rothwell Leather 3-Watch Roll on Amazon: I just got this in, have been testing it and while I do like what it is, it’s just too big for my needs relatively speaking. It’s great because I can travel with one watch in the case, have an empty case to store the second watch when off wrist, and then a third for straps and cleaning cloth, and it all works quite well. But the problem is the overall size, it’s just too big for what I need and I may return it or keep it for watch meetups where I want to bring 3 watches plus what’s on my wrist. I like that you can fold back the leather and have the pouch in a display mode, but that takes up more real estate on the side table, for example.

Image

IWC OEM Packaging Single Watch Pouch: This one is the most intriguing for me since it checks most of the boxes of what I’m looking for. Higher quality leather pouch, space to accommodate just about any size watch, display position for when I’m at a location, small to pack in my carry on, and a removable leather top which can either be placed under the pouch, snapped in, or along side on a window sill or table as a surface for a second watch to rest at night similar to my valet leather piece that I mentioned above. The negative here is the overall cost of the case itself both on the secondary and from the AD. I may still pick one up to try it out, but I appreciate the compact aspect here and the hope that I can fit a spare strap in the pillow OR below the watch and a cloth.

I'm curious what everyone else is using, or your thought process on travel in terms of single watch boxes, or your setup once you get into the groove. Anyone with an IWC pouch that you travel with? Are you okay with a larger 3 watch roll for travel if you only take one or two watches? Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks! Do you travel with 3 watches or 4 with one on your wrist? Or do you store straps and other stuff when you travel?

On a trip right now. Just two watches. One empty

Always leave one empty… who knows what you’ll find on your travels!

LOL, that's a good point!

Testing out the Rothwell 3 watch roll which is just gigantic to pack compared to my single watch box.

I really do like this roll, and for $75 and real leather, it's VERY difficult to beat. Easily holds everything I could need for any type of trip, but it's just big.

Almost happened!

I use socks to save space and fool hotel cleaners. Don't look rich traveling.

I just ordered the Mirage 3 piece, will report back. It’s not real leather, but that seem fine if it holds up.

Keep us posted! I’m on the fence with this Rothwell. It’s really nice but I’ll use it like once a year for a watch event and that’s about it.

I have a real crappy case that I use all the time for travel and throwing in my bag if I have to pass through security. The mirage seems like it copies the design from Everest. If I’m onto the Mirage, I might pick up the Everest.

Check mirage as well

I have tried a few different cases for travel but the best I have found (also the least expensive) is the 'watch Pod'. I packs easily takes up very little space.

I've seen these, and they are are strong contender for my needs. Again though, I think they are the same size of the watch roll I just got and it feels like a large commitment size wise versus a single watch case. But the price is right!

That's a nice case, especially for the price! The more I think about it, a 2 watch roll might be what I ultimately need.

That looks REALLY clean! I know a lot of people rave about this roll, plenty of videos online, and it's great to hear you think the quality is there for the price.

Ok after playing with it a little bit, here’s something I noticed. The watches sits on these slides, which seems like a much better design than the clip system in the Bosphorus rolls. This one functions like the Everest rolls. However, the slide modules are smaller than the roll, so I can hear the watch slide around within it because there isn’t much friction. Not sure if that makes sense. You can see in this picture the range it can move within the roll. I don’t think it’ll be a problem as I’m not really vigorously shaking the roll and the watch itself is not going to bang into anything within the roll.
