Norqain adds Jean-Claude Biver to the advisor role

NORQAIN has announced that the esteemed watch industry expert, Jean-Claude Biver, has joined the independent brand as an advisor to the board.

“Giving back to the younger generation now at the forefront of the industry is always something I’ve wanted to do,” says the 72-year-old.

From Blancpain to Omega to Hublot, TAG, and LVMH he’s THE watch boss. Will be interesting to see what he does with Norqain.

Norqain has some serious potential -- given that they're using the same movement found in my BB GMT in their GMT watches, I was hoping that they'd put out an alternative on the same lines as the Tudor.  I actually like the design language of their watches more than the Tudor, but I wanted the extra 100M of WR that Tudor offers -- plus the security of the Tudor name means that it's not going anywhere, whereas who knows what lays in store for Norqain's future.

I also am interested to see what comes of this. I'm a big fan of their designs.

I despise Norquain and I’ve never been a JCB fan.

Maybe their next model will be a 48mm skeleton dial that’s completely unreadable.   That’s all JCB seems to contribute.

He even Hublot-ized Zenith with the Defy, which I hear is being thankfully discontinued now that JCB is gone so that they can focus on using their production capacity to reduce the back orders of the Chronomaster Sport.  You know, the  popular Zenith model, not the JCB-does-Hublot-again Zenith model.

Their designs aren't for me, but I hear good things about their quality, and it's nice to see new brands succeed.

I'm really interested to see what impact this has on the brand. I really like their designs, and the watches have a nice quality feel to them. They tend to be a bit on the large side, and perhaps a bit overpriced, but if you can pick them up at a reasonable discount, I think they represent really good value. My Adventure Sport Chrono gets more than it's fair share of wrist time, and even though it's not COSC certified, keeps time well within chronometer specs.

My local AD really pushes Norqain every time I'm in the shop. They do have good specs, same movement manufacturer as Tudor, and feel super high quality. But, none of their designs are appealing to me. I especially don't like that left-side added branding -- seems kinda forced. Just my 2 cents. I want to like them, just haven't seen a model yet that I like.

Despise? Quite dramatic there. Good thing all don't need to like the same things.
