GS: Mechanic vs Quartz

Recently I am looking at GS as my next watch purchase. I am sucker for vintage KS (45KS) looks and found these 2 that could fill the criteria. The 291 is more similar to the KS (case design and movement - being 4hz vs 5hz) but the 295 is about 2x cheaper. I like 291 for the design while I like 295 being quartz (ease of use and maintenance, + price) Which would you pick and why. PS. Currently wearing Explorer and Santos in rotation

Go quartz, it's different than the watches you already own, if you want a GS quartz with the 44GS case check out the SBGP001.

forgot to mention, i like 37mm and under. Max would go 38mm if lugs are wearable (under 45mm)

Ohhh gotcha, then yes, the quartz wears smaller still because it's thinner.

yep, quartz is 10mm and the mechanical 11.6mm

my santos is 8mm and explorer 11.5mm. Both wear great so Im fine with thickness of both GS's

The 9F quartz is a watch like no other. Beautifully made and crazy accurate. Mine has an honored place in the box and gets a lot of wrist time.

Then you can't go wrong. My personal preference would be to have something unique to the brand that no other brand offers, like GS quartz or spring drive.

how are GS bracelets? as there is possibility to buy the bracelet for the quartz version.

Both great choices! The 45KS is indeed an awesome case.

About the question, me and my wife said we would go for the 291.

Why? Slightly smaller, nicer case and dial finishing amd it's movement is great. Hand-wounding it is a great experience that bonds you with the watch.

Not having a date window makes the dial so much cleaner as well.

I like the GS bracelets, I know that’s not true for all. They actually have 3 sizes of links, full, ~2/3, ~1/3 size. With careful adjustment at a watch shop you can get a good fit. The finish on my Winter (titanium) and GMT (steel) are excellent, well rounded edges and attractive polish. I’ve had both of these for about 3 years, there’s some patina on the titanium, very little markings on the steel. Yes, I do wish they had easy micro-adjustments, but overall they are great.

I have a GS leather strap on the Skyflake, also a winner. For me leather is more for dress/indoor wear. Bracelets are more GADA.

44GS design is really beatiful.

SBGX295 isnt in the current catalog so didnt get the chance to check.

I'd almost always go for the quartz. I don't feel any of that "Grand Seiko-ness" is lost when switching over to battery power. Their quartz modules are extremely accurate and overengineered. Plus, I'm a sucker for added thinness.

I'v choosed 9F (SBGN003 😉) as accurate grab&go timepiece.

And I agree with unique movement.
