Monta Atlas GMT / Christopher Ward C63 GMT --> has anybody experienced these, which one would you go for

Hey there,

has anybody had experience with one or even both of these. I could afford the CW responsibly but Im thinking about saving longer and going for the atlas. Which one would you go for and why even if you don't own one im interested in your opinion btw.

looking at the specs these are both very similar

I have experienced both.  They are pretty close in quality (particularly recent iterations of the C63), with a couple of notable edges to Monta

  1.  Finishing - if you look at the chamfered polished edges on the interior), as well as certain aspects of the bracelet.
  2. Movement accuracy (within 5 sec a day versus 20 for the CW)

No surprise, it costs a lot more.

I do think the watches, despite the similar functionality, serve different purposes.  The CW (with the numbered bezel and largeish hands) is deeply sporty.  I find the trident second hand whimsical and youthful.  For me, that makes it much more suited to a weekend watch.

The Monta (with the aggressively tapered bracelet, simple bezel, and more sober hand set) is a more versatile watch, suited to weekend, office, and (with a crocodile strap) many formal events.

It all depends on what you're using it for.

I have a C65 Trident GMT that I love very much

I have both as well. And I love both of them. The fact that both come with quick micro-adjustments on the bracelet was such a win for me, and both quality control is great. If you want more of an original design then the Monta is a good choice and although the Ch Ward C63 Sealander GMT is kind of a homage of the explorer II, they still out their own designs of Ch Ward in there.

I don’t have both but I’d choose the sealander over the monta atlas in terms of the overall look.  I understand that Monta is on a higher price bracket than CW but if I were to purchase a Monta I’d go for the Ocean King

You can try the C63 Sealander GMT for 30 days and send it back if you have any second thoughts (just don't beat the hell out of the watch).
