Watch Insurance

I'm curious how everyone here insures their precious watches.

Do you just rely on your Home Contents Cover to cover them in the event of a home theft?

Or does anyone add them specifically to 'Named' items that are also covered when out and about?

Thanks for any advice here gang...

All of mine are named individually if they cost over £2k

I have all of mine valued at over $2K insured as individually scheduled items on a jewelry policy. Insuring the Chinese stuff, the microbrands and the Glycines just isn't worth the expense.

·

Just on the home contents insurance because, seriously, have you seen my collection? LOL

I have all my watches listed on a separate jewelry and art policy. Most of my pieces are scheduled unless they’re under 10 grand. Then I have a balloon policy that’ll cover all other watches up to a maximum of like $35,000 for one single item.

I have a trained magpie that just steals them back

Thanks for the info folks. I'm unsure if my insurance provider does a jewelry specific policy. I'll call them this week as ask as I suspect I'm paying too much for insurance. Thanks again.

I have a capped amount ($50K or so) in my homeowner's policy so I insure through a separate Hodinkee/Chubb policy. It's not particularly expensive (about a $1 for every $100 of coverage) and gives a lot of peace of mind.

Agree with @Edge168n here using Hodinkee/Chubb plan separately for anything over $2k like @JBird7986. It’s affordable, easy to add on, and covers full loss from damage or theft. I use Chubb for business insurance as well and they’re easy to work with.

I’ve been using Chubb by Hodinkee for my watches over 3k. When my policy expires I might just get a safety deposit box since i believe it’s cheaper. I do love the convenience of having insurance and not worrying though
