Vintage Certina - Chapter IV

I was able to resist the charm of vintage watches and especially vintage Certina’s for about 6 months. But I had a relapse because of an encounter with a Certina DS-2. This time I did my homework and paid special attention to the seller.

As some of you may have seen my post recently. i had found a DS-2 that was overhauled and offered for sale by a hobby watchmaker. However, it turned out the seller was not the watchmaker himself, but another seller who had bought it a few months ago. the longer the conversation got, the more I distanced myself from it. I rather wanted be more careful with a private seller.

But then i found one that was for sale in my place of residence and the seller had his office nearby. so we met in a cafe today and i was able to take a closer look at his offered DS-2.

So now i have a new old watch that was serviced last year and in addition to that I have a very nice contact who is also a hobby watchmaker and whom i can now contact if i have problems. he also knows an old retired watchmaker who still repairs watches as a hobby. the service then only costs a fraction of the prices that regular watchmakers call for here in the city.

A win-win situation after a long road to my first Certina.

The End?

The way it's supposed to be. Nice purchase from a reliable source and now a new capable contact. 👍

Great it all ended well. Your DS2 looks fantastic and seems to be in great condition. I really like the size and the cushion case of these gems. Mine says hello!

I have a modern remake of it, it's so stunning(and that turning bezel one is sweet too) Something about these watch shapes feels very nostalgic even though I wasn't born then!

Nice! That's a pretty one!

the size fits really well. better than the modern one i think. so far everything looks fine for a 55 year old watch. yours is very nice with the orange seconds hand and the gradient dial.

Congratulations on the great watch!

Could you please tell us something about the bracelet? It fits wonderfully to the watch and I would also like to have such a bracelet on one of my watches (also 18mm lug width). Could you reveal where you got it? Thank you very much.

Unfortunately i don't know much about it. It is made of 100% stainless steel and from Hong Kong. That's about it. But it's very comfortable, light and even though i usually don't like bracelets, this on is pretty nice to wear.
