Nomos Ahoi Atlantic Date

Just wanted to share my journey with my latest acquisition.  I have been in the hunt for this piece for the better part of 6 months. I was really attracted to its design and color combination initially. Researching more about it, I was further impressed with its dimensions at 40.3mm width, 50mm L2L, 10.6mm height and 20mm lug width. Having a 55mm wrist width, I figured it would be a perfect fit. Plus having 200m WR in a non-dive watch piece had me sold. The hunt is on...

I looked-up several on-line platforms including amazon, jomashop, crown&caliber, watchbox (not sure if it is allowed to mention these sites here) and many others but it would always be out of stock. Even the Nomos official site does not have it in stock. A site in the UK was asking for a 30% initial deposit with a waiting period of "approximately 6 months" for a new unit. I figured I am not willing wait that long. Plus with money already sunk into it, they could not even guaranty availability within that certain period which is not very reassuring. I tried calling all AD's in my country hoping that they would have a unit stashed somewhere in their stockroom to no avail. I was so frustrated that I gave up the hunt for some time. It never left my mind though. It has always occupied a space in my subconcious and would once in a while take primetime slot that I would again look up google to see if any unit would come up for sale. Chrono24 would have a number of pre-owned examples available. However, either they would be really banged-up units or the asking price would be just outright unreasonable.

Up until a few weeks ago this particular unit came up on Watchfinder. It looked pristine in pictures and at a price better than the banged-up units on Chrono plus with the 2year  Watchfinder warranty, I immediately pulled the trigger and placed the order.

It finally arrived 4days ago, delivered to my door at 9 in the evening. It was just in the exact condition as was claimed in the listing. Whoooah! You can just imagine the feeling of a fellow enthusiast when the thrill of the hunt has finally come to its fruition! To finally hold the watch in your hand, to wrap it around your wrist and to raise it to the light and admire its tiniest details! Pure fulfillment and satisfaction like no other! I was practically a child being gifted that toy I have always begged my folks to buy me.

Thanks for reading this post 'til the end watch fam. Would also like to hear out your experiences with your own watch journeys and probably a hunt for a specific watch you fell in love with.

Glad you agree bro! 😊

Oh man this is so familiar. I was hunting for the 741 but the NOMOS site and Chrono24 sellers all had a 6 month wait. I couldn’t do it so I bought another Club instead. Glad you got your watch!

Thanks! Yup! it could get really frustrating. But I chose to stick to what I lusted for and waited for a good one to come up. Btw how was your experience with buying a substitute to what you really wanted? I read some articles about buyer's remorse on that matter. That maybe one reason I chose to wait for the right one.

I got the ACE x NOMOS Club. I don't regret it yet! The biggest difference is obviously the orange but I don‘t mind it :)

In that case I agree with you. In my case I could not get myself to substitute the 551 to the 553 which is the closest Nomos has in their catalogue. The color just does not connect with me in this particular design. 😕

A screwed down crown on a dressy watch is a W for me.

Oh definitely sir! Though just classified as a sports watch but having the capability of a dive watch minus the diving bezel might be overkill but who would mind, right? 😊
