IIcohow-wowyp round two! (4/8) Vostok Amfibia vs. Certina DS Action Diver 38

If I could only have one watch - which one would you chose? Only divers today... Vostok Amfibia (40mm) One should have an Amfibia. I feel like the concept is so different, everyone should experience it. Try the wonky crown. Open the two part caseback. Regulate the movement that came to you with -150 s/d. Rotate the friction bezel. Tap the crystal. Worry about something that's not working today. Think about modding. Know that somehow this will survive everything. Certina DS Action Diver (38mm) I don't know why, everytime I put on this watch and look at it, I'm in love. I know it's only a boring black diver without any special features, but for me it's perfection. The proportions, the styling. That it's not a retro or reissue watch. That it's not trying to look modern or different. That it's perfect on any strap. It looks like all dive watches and like no specific dive watch. I've had the big version for years and still bought this 38mm in the same black colourway. When it comes to Certina, I apparently can't be rational. Which one would you pick?

I wanted to vote Amphibia, but then looked carefully at the photo and noticed that it is 2 days behind and voted Certina. But really I love Vostok and I even have one in the same case (BTW it is not 40 but 39 mm. But I love how Certina is looking and probably ready to trade this model of Vostok to Swiss giant.

Hehe I measured both because I found that the Amfibia looks bigger in the picture.

I measured 39.6 Amfibia and 38.4 Certina - contrary to my eye test. 🤯

I'd say they're both around 39 and are labeled 38 or 40 on the retail sites.

The Vostok is much, much more interesting and full of character. To it's detriment as a daily watch. You can't eat candy all the time. The practical generic-looking diver is going to look more appropriate when one doesn't want the tchochke look of a bizarre historical artifact.

As always, your argument is perfectly on point 🎯

The Certina is better by any rational measurement but I voted Vostok. It was my first mechanical and you can't betray that love!

Tough one to choose! Love them both. Voted Vostok because you cry less if it gets lost. Also, you have 300 designs to choose from, even boring ones :)

As much as I love the Amphibia if you can only have one watch, that is not it.

Vostok. Infinitively customizable, easy to replace, light on the wallet, fun.
