When I wear my casio gshock watches and timex I love the auto light or indiglo on them. How do you deal on automatic with lume without a light. This is starting to be a really a con since I do need good time and lume does not last long ?
Get a watch with good luminescence. Seiko, Orient, Signum come to mind.
For my use, good lume is even better than auto-light, because I can keep the watch on my wrist through the night if I want and I don't get blinded by the light after moving my hand. It's also always there when I need it, I don't have to move my hand or press a button.
I'll pre charge lume with an led light/torch before night if I'm wearing a watch.
And as far as lasting goes, once your eyes are accustomed to low light, you should be able to pick up the faint glow.
Similar to how night sights work for handguns. (Granted maybe not as bright except for tritium based like watches).
Personally I prefer non digital, get annoyed sometimes when the auto light doesn't activate and I have to shake my wrist, or twist it a bunch to get it to turn on.

i don't mind it one bit tbh, not all watches need to be massive lume cannons

you burn them after each use?
A quick look at my phone solves the problem👍
Seiko has good lume for the price.
I wear my Laco B-uhr in bed usually, or a diver. The Laco actually has better lume than my Willards or Seamaster!

Wear two watches and make sure one has a backlight/lume.
in such cases I use my iPhone to tell time.
