Which watch movement type is your go-to preference: quartz or mechanical?

Mechanical movements are engineering marvels at a microscopic level, traditional in their operation, but often more expensive and requiring regular servicing. Quartz movements are crazy accurate, much less expensive, require little to no servicing, but the movement is as exciting as drying paint.

Mechanical/Automatic for me

·

I go with the best: quartz.

·

More and more I go for quartz.

·

Quartz with eco-drive or tough solar preferably.

·

Grab & Go? A Quartz.

Which one do I wear when I have time in the morning (and I work from home, so I always have time)? More often than not, a mechanical.

·

Watching paint dry is a lot more exciting than a quartz movement!!

No preference. I pick a watch for its aesthetic. Movement is a detail.

·

One needs me more than I need it. It's a somewhat symbiotic relationship.

The other could care less if I exist or not, it will just keep ticking away once per second until it's battery is exhausted.

Its nice be needed.

90% of wrist time goes to mechanical watches.

·

It depends, not all quartz watches like mechanicals are built to the same standard,

The Grand seiko 9f is a hand assembled beautifully made quartz movement with a lot higher standard than off the shelf mechanical movements.

Sometimes I want to pick my watch up and know its the right time...

I admire the workmanship of mechanical and enjoy wearing them. They really are intricate engineering masterpieces. For daily grab-and-go, as well as ease of wearing (thinner case), I go with quartz almost every time.

Formal and some casual: mechanical, everything else: Quartz
