That's a very timeless design. It has aged well.
It makes sense that your grandfather would have a Darwil in Serbia. They were an Italian company that made watches in Switzerland and often marketed them to Eastern Europe. They sold a lot of watches out of Trieste for the Yugoslavian market. (My great grandmother grew up in a village approximately six miles from Trieste in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She traveled to Trieste exactly one time in her life - to catch the boat to America.)

Nicely done homework. These watches were exceptionally popular in the former Yugoslavia and were frequently bestowed as anniversary gifts in various factories and companies. Although not pricey, this Darwil holds a special place in my watch collection due to its history and importan man who wore it before me. Not in 1916, it was a bit before Darwil's time.
