work promotion watch under 500 and under 1000

Hey guys, wanted your opinion on what you would get yourself if you got promoted at work? Its an office job so ideally an everyday or dress watch under500 and 1000. Its for a first time manager type of role so you want to be taken seriously but also not too serious. Can you guys help?

Clarification question: are you asking for suggestions for two different watches? Or one watch under 1K?

  • A nice Tissot automatic. (But since I have yet to peek over the $500 fence, I'll let the others speak to that one.)

  • Another easy sub-$500 pick, a 2nd gen. Bambino, v.2:

Either one of these would serve you well, plus you'll be well under budget.

Seiko presage cocktail time. Some are a bit under 500 usd but they’re very classy and the dials are insane. If you really want something 500-1000 then the Hamilton Khaki Field Murph Auto

This is a broad enough prompt that it'll still come down to your personal taste more than anything... but I feel like I can comment because I've also been recently moving up in my white-collar life. And dressing to impress is a real thing. (I make a lot of sales to men who are 40 years older than me, so I have reason to keep everything about my style quite conservative.)

I'm a disagreeable person, so the more I see something recommended, the less I want it... unless there's something truly unique and captivating going on. I'm sure other people will give very solid and competent recommendations in this thread, but if I was in your situation, I would go into the weeds and look for something that even other watch nerds can't name off the top of their heads.

Right now, and trying to get the best available quality in your price range, that puts me in mind of some of the odder Japan-only Seiko Presages. Look into this product line yourself and maybe you'll find a perfect match:

In actual business situations, nobody ever thinks that a Seiko is a douchey flex piece, which makes me favour the brand more than most others.

I'd go with a vintage Omega, Longines or Tissot in that order. Class, sophistication and good taste will let people know that you value quality.

At this range, can’t really go wrong with the suggestions above. I’d like to toss in the Chemin des Tourelles and Le Locle collections from Tissot. You’ll find them all over this price range depending on availability and discounts around you.

That’s a big plus for Seiko, no matter how much you spend, people will go “oh, it’s only a Seiko”. It will never occur to them that you might have spent thousands, no matter how nice the watch looks. I’m now picturing talking myself out of a mugging by saying “it’s only a Seiko”.

A Hamilton. Pick your favorite style.
