This Christmas, I'm hoping to treat myself by buying a watch I've wanted for quite a while now. But I can't really decide what I want to buy.
My two main options are the Seiko Alpinist 1959 and the Hamilton PSR, and I'll list their pros and cons below.
Alpinist:
+Way more traditionally versatile
+Standard albeit oddly-sized lugs
+20 bar WR
+Exceptional lume
-Long-term service costs
-More expensive
-6R movements are known to be hit or miss in regards to factory accuracy
PSR:
+My dream digital watch
+Service=a battery every ~5 years
+Quartz accuracy
+Cheaper on average
+More of a conversation starter (imo)
-Integrated bracelet with absolutely no aftermarket straps
-Not as versatile, though I personally think it would look great formally and casually
If you are a Bond fan, it has to be the PSR. I also would say while the Alpinist is terrific and good-looking, it's just another round watch. The PSR isn't.
The PSR is cool, but I suspect once the novelty wears off the watch wouldn't get worn much.
Alpinist is fine. That PSR is super cool.
6R35 is really hit or miss. Mine was not a complete miss, but wasn't a complete hit either. I ended up trying to regulate it on my own and accidentally touched the hairspring during the process. Watch is currently getting serviced :p
I ended up getting the PSR, I honestly wanna go on a mechanical watch diet
