[SOTC] 2023 in Review

What a year it has been. This year I broke my personal collecting rule (1 watch from 1 conglomerate) and got myself a Seiko 5. The SNXS79 was honestly something I was going to try on for a week and send back but it got me. Or I got it. For almost 2 months it pretty much never left my wrist. No particular memory with it yet other than the excitement when I saw the watch in person.

The Cartier has seen a lot of wrist time too, it was there for my personal achievement, traveled up to Niagara Falls during autumn, and down to DC as well.

On the flip side, the Orient Mako II got a lot of water (and sun) time during the summer.

The Citizen Skyhawk and the Casio kept me company during many of my shifts.

Lastly, my Hamilton (American Classic Spirit of Liberty Chronograph). Due to its massive size, I've been on the fence about how I feel about the watch for a good while now. So much so that I was thinking about selling it and making use of the money elsewhere. I guess it caught me sort of by surprise that my smarter half told me it's the watch she got me for my son's birth, it would sadden her if it left my collection. That coupled with a few of my close acquaintances got chronos themselves recently, I found love for the Hamilton again.

Sure it's a hunk of metal. But it's a beautiful hunk of metal with one of the most storied movements there is - the (modified) 7750. And so it has been on my wrist the past week, only leaving it for showers and other dangerous activities as such. From the brink of elimination, I guess I have another never-sell in my collection now.

Thank you for being there for my watch journey 🙏 We'll see what 2024 has in stock for us.

Excellent collection my friend! 1 watch from one conglomerate sounds like a rule that was meant to be broken to me. 😉

One watch from one conglomerate sounds good until you realize that the Swatch group has Longines, Hamilton, Tissot, Omega, Mido, Rado, Blancpain, Certina, and Glasshutte Original.

Honestly it was more there to stop myself from buying 20 Casios/Citizens/Seikos 😂

I know! But I guess that's also fun of the challenge 🙂

I get that. Affordability can be a double edge sword ⚔️
