Powermatic 80 winding problem

Fellow PRX and Powermatic 80 movement owners, has anyone had experience with the seconds hands not moving after you wind the watch from empty.

My PRX is about 6 months old, not my most worn watch but I always wind up the watch every few days to keep it running so the movement doesn't stay null when not used. When the watch power reserve does get empty and I wind it to make it run, the second hand doesn't move even after 10-20 winds. I need to give it good shaking for the second hand to get going. It was all normal when new, but this is the third time I'm having this problem, also the winding feels tight until the seconds hand starts to move. Other than this issue, the watch once it gets going runs well and the accuracy is about +6 seconds a day. I have had the Tissot Gentleman before and never had this issue with the Powermatic variant in that watch.

The thing which worries me is the tight winding feel until the seconds hand starts to move, it's not pleasant. Is this something normal with the new Powermatic variant or should I get it checked under warranty? I'm just not sure since watch runs well once it gets going.

Does the rotor spin when you wind it? If it does you've got the well known sticky reverser issue that has plagued the ETA 2824 and derived movements (like the PM80) since time immemorial. I'd take it in for service regardless though.

The rotor doesn't spin but the winding gets gritty with extra resistance. Once I shake the watch and the seconds hand starts moving, the winding feels normal again.

I have a Tissot Le Locle with the Powermatic 80 and no I haven't experienced what you describe, despite the watch sitting unwound for months at a time (a dress watch that only gets very occasional wrist time).

I'd get're serviced if I were you. Good luck! 😀

I took it to my Tissot AD few days back, and he also said it is not normal and compared it with a new PRX from the display case. The initial winding resistance was very noticeable.

Its already in for service under warranty 🙂

I have the same problem with my 35mm PRX. I just have it for one month. It is in service now. Thanks for the info.
