In the price range closer to 3k, I would look into Oris and Longines. You got solid watches for the with those two brands. Nomos is also great but if you are looking for immediate purchase then you may have to be aware of the waiting period once you order through their website. FC Highlife ans Classic models are beautiful options on the dressier side.

You can always try some Tudor models for that price range. Maybe a Tudor 1926 if he wants something more dressy or a Ranger for a GADA watch.

I usually intent to get a lot bang for the buck. Especially if it's a present. Every model has of course different colors and styles. So I picked up several watches, that are badass for their prices and offer a lot in case of design, technique and manufacturing quality. Swiss and German brands.

Rado True Square in Opean Heart (almost skeleton) or normal dial. But make sure it's Plasma High Tech Ceramic. The material is incredible. Full Ceramic, comfortable to wrist, scratch resistant but looks like high polished steel.

Sinn 903, Sinn and Breitling build together the "Navitimer" in licence long story, you can read somewhere ;-) . But the Sinn 903 is much better and cheaper. Unfortunetly it is resently discontinued. So if you decide you should hurry up.

Felipe Pikullik is crazy good custom watchmaker. The ingravement and amost processes are handmade. His prices are changing constantly. My last information was 2,2K for the Sternenhimmel (I guess you can tell not put diamonds on the lugs). Which is actually a bargain. But you have to ask anyway.

Limes Pharo Chronograph Vollkalender ("Lee-Mess"), this german brand is quite unknown. It belong to a traditonal stll family owned watch parts manufacturer in the watch-City of Pforzheim. They use the Valjoux 7751, a full calendar movement with chronograph complication and moonphase. Except the movement, everything is infhouse manufactured. I once made a compairing to three other competitors using the same movement but more expensive.

Now few watches little bit over 3K but you can try to find them cheaper if you like them

Montblanc Iced Sea , in my opinion one of the best or even the best diver in this price range...especially because of the dial. A easter egg: The rotating bezel sounds like a dolphin under water.
