Modding a Casio with 3rd Party Motherboard and Firmware

I ran across this post on Hacker News, linking to John Graham-Cumming's blog, detailing how he replaced the motherboard and firmware on his Casio F-91W. https://blog.jgc.org/2022/10/pimping-my-casio-with-oddly-specific.html

Two things I have little confidence in are soldering miniature components and programming.

But I don't really want the phases of the moon...

Hold up, are they saying that I can get a F-91W to somehow indicate moon phase? Take my money now! How do I get that done?

That's not the only crazy thing it can do.  Here's the full list (some need a little more work than others, but they're all possible): https://joeycastillo.github.io/Sensor-Watch-Documentation/firmware/prebuilt.html#movement-standard

I'm about to start a dream F-91W thread. Mine has moonphase, the improved backlight (LED swap), and the countdown timer. The sunrise/sunset is nice too but I can't get greedy.

I go out for a walk every morning, so I'm very interested in knowing when it gets to be light outside; i.e., the various forms of twilight (civil, nautical, astronomical), which precede sunrise.
