Open an old watch to replace battery and...

...found a note and no battery ๐Ÿคจ Asked my father, as it seems his writing, he told me he did this maybe 15 years ago ๐Ÿ˜…. He doesn't remember why. Surprise!

This is a Lotus I wore during high school and college.

BTW, this is my first post! I'm from Barcelona and I'd like to learn from you

Can't get the battery, don't want to leave watch unassembled or reinstall dead one to possibly leak and explode some day. This is a reasonable action, despite looking like a comical IOU.

Itโ€™s the password to his secret stash of 1:1 watches.

Your father saved the watch by removing the dead battery.

Thanks Dad of the past for making it so easy for me of the present. Varta is just a brand of courseโ€ฆ. You can get 399 batteries from amazon or other from $1 each up to $5 or soโ€ฆ. Go for the silver oxide.

Well done dad, otherwise that dial might have been less than white after 15years of battery leakage. The battery numbering system is crazy, but there are cross references available online. As above, the silver oxide is the wise choice.

Varta is a battery manufacturer.

That is the battery type code.
