NWA - You always find what you are looking for if you just stop looking for it

A random instagram find. I follow a local page with vintage watches on insta and they mostly have watches from lesser known brands for a cheap. But sometimes they sell a gem. I’ve missed a pretty cool Longines and they had a wonderful ladies Zenith (24 is a bit too small even for me), but this time I got lucky.

I was looking for a watch like that for a pretty long time. Dressy, gold plated, 34mm. Something like a vintage Seamaster. But all the Omegas I’ve found in my area were either overpriced or with horrible condition (usually both). I gave up on an idea and focused on other things, mostly work and family. As you might noticed I wasn’t really active on WC for last month. But as soon as I saw this Doxa I almost subconsciously DMed a seller and made an order.

Man, this is THE watch. The image of the watch. Something with a similar essence to Calatrava. Simple, yet beautiful. Minimal, yet substantial.

Also I’ve never had a manual wound watch and the wounding itself is an experience.

I would also say that this is my first watch from “luxury” brand. Not that it really matters, but still.

This watch will stay on my wrist for quite some time now. I just can’t get over how elegant it looks and how it makes me feel. Isn’t it wonderful that such simple looking thing can produce a complex stew of visual, tactile and “mental” experiences along with a very very certain vibe and feel.

Just beautiful.

Yeah, that’s what I love about vintage stuff - finding something completely different. When I think vintage “dress” watch, I think Omega Seamaster or DeVille, myriad of Cartier Tanks (obviously), maybe a Grand Seiko, but not Doxa.) Still, on a closer inspection you can see why Doxa is an established name with a following. The degree of complexity in this “simple dress watch” is amazing. Stepped case, pattern on a dial, the size and proportions. Designers did an outstanding job.

And as a fellow “dress watch” aficionado I know that making a “simple” dress watch isn’t that easy. BTW, you have a wonderful pieces in a collection!

Thank you very kindly my friend. Exactly. Making a "simple" dress watch is definitely more complex than it seems!
