Watches and Golfing

Hey everyone, just wanted to pose a question for the group. Later today I am going golfing, and am wondering whether I should wear a watch or not. I had shoulder surgery and this will be my first time golfing since gettting into collecting so I’ve never had this predicament come up before. But will wearing my automatic watch while golfing damage it due to the shock or am I fine realistically.

I would not wear a watch during any impact sport activity. Including golf, tennis, etc.

The movement is to delicate to put it under stress.

However there are certain watches with which you can go golfing from RM or IWC

They can handle it. I would be more concerned about the weight of the watch bothering me during the swing.

Depends on your risk tolerance.

I wear a G-Shock, never have any worries.

Why bother. Use the computer in the cart.

I always remove my watch while playing golf. I find it a distraction. I see many lovely watches in the club house but nothing on the course so assume most do the same.

Garmin Approach S7 is the way to go. App gives u yardages, routes, etc. As to an automatic, heck no, too delicate a complication. The very most is a Gshock, at least its cushioned.

Apple Watch for golf. Track distances, shots and scores all at once!

You'll be fine.

The lions share of the world doesn't generate enough swing speed to matter.

For reference, I've shot multiple firearm platforms with a variety of my automatics and I've been fine. (40mm, .50, and most smaller stuff)

I also play as much golf as I can withvmy current work scheudle. I am back to wearing regular watches since Shotscope has released a cabinet style golf tracker that doesnt need to be on wrist.

Personally I'd place the idea of golf damage to an auto close to the idea there is such a thing as dynamic water pressure when swimming.

For the record/reference:

MY average swing speed according to metrics from the fall when testing some new shafts at PXG in Dallas was around 103-106 mph. If I swing out of my shoes I can go over 110 mph. (Horrible results tho)

I'm taller, do a ton of combat chassis workouts, and have been playing golf since 8. I have a steeper swing path and a tendency to transition too aggressively. This is also why I use long irons/driving irons, and not hybrids. Less concerned with getting the ball up, more concerned with stoping and controlling the flight path.

Apple Watch with the Tag Heuer app for me. Destroyed two Tissot automatic movements on the driving range

I wear the G-Shock GAB2100.
