Custom Glow in the Dark Dials

One of my annoyance with the many amazing watches I found is that many of them lack lumes. It makes it really hard for me to check the time in the dark at night times.

“Why not just use your smartphone for that?”

  1. It means i have to reach into my pocket

  2. I’m too often blinded by the suddent bright light from the phone

  3. I like watches and I want to have more excuse to take a look at it. Yes, even in the dark. Won’t be a part of WC if I’m not like that wouldn’t I?

So… I figure why not try adding lume myself?

So this post is basically half a rant, half a reflection of my effort.

Both are plain Q&Q watches that the dials I customized myself (using mixed media) and glow in the dark top coat.

Honestly, I’m not too happy with it because for the pink watch the glow in the dark top coat made the dial looked lumpy in some lighting. It made it look cheap.

For the phoenix dial, I made the mistake of putting the shinny top coat first before the glow in the dark. It was only after I cured it using UV that I realized my mistake that I should’ve did it the other way around.

I think I really need to figure out a way to apply the glow in the dark top coat better.

Well, anyway I’m gonna keep practicing and annoy my family with the ever growing number of watches I kept on purchasing for my “art” 😂.

I welcome any comments or suggestion of what kind of dials I should try to do next.

I also need some suggestions for a way for me to get rid some of these watches. Selling them? Gifting them away?

Weirdly as much as it looks great!! Reminds me of some sort of a crime scene and using blue light for some “unwanted” liquids for DNA or something …

Sorry

Lol!! That’s actually such a great idea! I think I might mod a watch based around that idea… like a Sherlock Holmes or CSI theme. Thanks! 😆
