Please tell me you have those comics in sleeves and boards. 😭
So fun fact (not that anyone cares) almost all of the comics in my collection I bought as a kid in the early to mid 80’s with allowance and paper route money. They’re almost all newsstand editions and I’m currently filling in the few I missed to fill out complete runs.

I started collecting in the 90s (X-Men, Spider-Man, etc) and did the same thing as you. Saved up my lunch money and allowance from chores to buy comics. When I went off to college, I was a “regular” at the comic book store and had my books set aside in a cubby ready for me every 2 weeks.

That’s awesome. My shop burned down in a spectacular fire in mid 80’s and after that I couldn’t ride my bike to the closest shop which was 20 miles away. After I got my license I lost interest but have periodically revisited the collection to fill gaps. Glad you had a store that took care of you!

Out of pure happenstance, I have the first occurrence of the Spider-Man black suit (later known as Venom) which was in a Daredevil book (which I was collecting at the time) and the second and third appearances which were in Spider-Man books.
Oddly, the Spider-Man books are worth way more today. Comics, like watches, make no sense sometimes.

Comic book store are a dying breed. All the ones I used to go to are closed or only survive with the support of selling card games like Pokémon or Magic.
To be fair, I haven’t been a good patron and only buy collected graphic novels now as 1) storylines are too convoluted 2) comic events run into books that I don’t care for 3) I’m patient.

Wow, that is a classic. Better get that graded and sealed up. Spider-Man is arguably the greatest comic book character of all time. The storylines just got all crazy with reboots and resets.

Spidey is for sure the best. I don’t even know how to get them graded, tbh. Like you said earlier… I’m collecting for the next generation.

Agreed… at this point the genre had passed me by. Gone are the days of enjoying a series for the stories and art. Maybe I’m jaded but the “good old days” were the best days for comics in my opinion.

There are 2 big grading houses. OMG you really need to get that Spidey black costume graded and sealed.
From Bing Chat GPT…
The black Spider-Man costume first appeared in 1984’s Secret Wars No. 8. The original artwork of Spider-Man donning his black costume for the first time sold for $3.36 million at auction, setting a new record for comic book art

Have you read Kingdom Come, Marvels, or The Dark Knight Returns? Some of the best stories and artwork (other than Dark Knight).

😳So that’s where comics get weird. The Daredevil comic is from May, 1984 and the Secret Wars is December, 1984. 7 months later. Seems like mine should be worth at least $3 million 😂😂😂

Absolutely! I actually just replaced all of the sleeves and boards… they’re good to go… into storage for another 40 years 😂

Except for the one with the cocktail glass ring on it. That was a keeper, now it’s a coaster.

Lol that’s on a coaster with books around it… I wouldn’t do that to my comics! 😂😂😂
