The Search for the Everyday

I've recently been fortunate enough to pick up a submariner from my local AD.

Since having it, I realize I like simple watches for everyday use too. Looking at microbrands as well, I'd like to add a tag and maybe a Formex or Farer to the collection.

Next up, one of those, unless I can find an explorer 39mm 214270 for a killer price.

Whats a brand with great finishing but not a high price luxury? (less than 3000)

I would recommend you buy a vintage seamaster;)

Why not the Sub Date for everyday use?

This is correct. All they make are extremely well finished finished daily wear watches for half the price you would pay for an equivalent Swatch group brand.

Pretty much what @usccopeland asked. What’s wrong with the sub? It’s a great daily watch.

I love wearing this watch, but (and it's in my head) it is my special occasions watch. I know it's in my head but personally feels like a special occasions watch.

Stainless steel sports watches are built for every day use. Just because a watch is expensive doesn't mean it's a dress/special occasion watch. It's your watch if you choose to use it that way but then your aren't getting the full enjoyment out of it.

That's true, I might just need to ease into it 😂

Also take a look at Nodus!

I think of it this way, price of watch ÷ days worn = true cost.

Lots of money ÷ nearly everyday = not expensíve

Or

Lots of money ÷ only a few days a year = expensive

Formex is a great choice. Incredible finishing for the price

The Sub is a simple watch. One of the best everyday tool watches available. JMO enjoy the hobby 🎯

Within a months time, you’ll be wearing it every day.

Wow congratulations. I took my PD and custom the dial and hands to make it my own until I’m ready to part with 10k

if I’m every ready 😅

Very nice indeed!

Your sub is an everyday watch and will stand the text of time no issues.. but I couldn’t wear it as an everyday, just could not do it! A vintage seamaster I could because it’s robust and stunning. That said, formex are an exciting brand, new to the table and have some beautiful watches. Exciting choices ahead! Love the sub, good luck with it👍

This!

I use the WatcheePro app to track my collection and to track wear rates.

It calculates cost per wear as well. Which may not be a massively useful stat, but it kind neat to know.

Grand Seiko all the way.

·

people are gonna spam you with Christopher Ward, they aint wrong.

·

I don’t wear my Submariner every day either. Christopher Ward or Sinn would be two great choices under $3K.

·

I wish the Sinn U50T was a watch I could try on. It's also 41 like the sub. But I wonder if it fits the same because the sub is really more like a 40.6

·

I’m actually saving up for the sub right now too! I would highly recommend Formex as the nicest finishing at the price bracket you described. I’ve had the pleasure of taking product photos for many Formex releases, and I’m always impressed by the quality. I have the Reef GMT in my collection, it’s awesome!

I would recommend you buy a vintage seamaster;)

Or a Baltic Aquascaphe

·

Omega Seamaster Railmaster. I've seen new in JS below $3000

Just do what everyone else does. G-Shock 😁

·

I noticed no one brought up the new Tudor BB 36. If you think 36mm is too small, they make a 41mm.

·

As many have said here Christopher Ward and Sinn obviously.

Take a look at Circula the microbrand from Germany? Great designs , spec monsters and generally sub 1k?

Here's the just released Titanium 500 diver. I bought one yesterday...

I'm a big Tudor fan of course but nearly all their stuff sits above 3k

I have an old sub ( around 15-20 years old ) and personally i don’t feel it’s a great watch for everyday wear! That’s just me but if you are thinking about adding to your collection, I personally recommend an Scurf! If you like a nice dive but don’t want to pay over the top for one 👍
