My 3 grail watches

I might set the bar low to some but i learned to appreciate cheap watches. I couldn't care less about a 100k patek and wouldn't buy it if i had all the money in the world. These 3 watches are some of my favourite ever made, from left to right casio c801, seiko 6458 6000 and casio w39. The w39 is my daily.

Gorgeous watches, japan really were at the forefront of watches back then.

Very cool collection there buddy.

Hey, quartz lover here myself. That is a totally awesome collection (said in my best 80's voice!). Half my collection is Casio/G Shock. Retro digital is sooo cool!

BTW, when you talk about consistent QC, Casio is #1!!

Cheap watches are great because when done right by brands that knows what they are doing the result is both interesting and pleasing.

Am happy you have achieved your grail watch goals. My pushback, however, is how do you know you wouldn't find greater enjoyment from a seiko, hamilton, omega, rolex, patek.... the tens of equally interesting brands out there without trying? It would be one thing to have tried other types of watches and then come to your conclusion.

I had an extended family member tell everyone around her for years that she wouldn't want to travel outside country X because such country had everything she could ever want. For years on out she would use her vacation days to visit the same set of locations (all cheaper destinations). Years later her family would travel to many places around the world but then she actually wasn't able to travel to those places anymore due to health reasons. She could only then live vicariously through her family. This is not the same analogy but I just wanted to throw it out there.

People are different and have different character, temperament and levels of hormones. If your extended family member has increased emission of cortisol it might affect her decision making even in the question of travelling and trying new things. She values stability, safety and homeland above all. Does she really suffer not travelling? Does she regret her decisions? If not then probably she is just happier this way. It is difficult to accept and understand for people with different mentality. It is though that everybody wants to travel and traveling is the best form of activity. But that is real only for a small group of active people who live on combination of dopamine and endorphins. They are also attention seekers so the share their travels, tell about their new things and experiences, thus they are loud (in a good sense). We all see them around and think that this is how the world is arranged, but it is not true. We only see what is shown to us)))

@jmntnn I love your collection. Is you daily w39 also in resin case? Or is that metal? I really love the looks and want to get one now )))

·

That c801 is brilliant!

My favourite collections to look at on here are ones that have taken a bit of individual thought to put together, not just "Teddy Baldasar told me this was the perfect 3 watch collection".... I love your choices 🍻

·

You couldn't ask for more, 3 solid pieces from known brands and still was less than a Rolex service, think about that, just perfect.

the c801 is part of Casio’s first calculator watch line. It was meant to compete with seiko and citizen calculator watches that required a stylus for input. The larger buttons could be operated with your fingers. The buttons on the right serve calculator and stopwatch functions. the ca 53w has one extra row of buttons on the front for that. The buttons on the left are light, time setting, date display and mode selector.

Well, all this can be had for less than a hamilton khaki, a watch that most see as an entry level watch. You just have to be more patient for good ones to pop up on ebay.

I owned many watches and still do, these are just the ones that i found to be perfect to me. If i end up not liking one i just sell it again.

What i look for in a watch is something rare but not so rare that no parts are available. It has to be special but not immediately look like it is, if no one cares about the special thing it’s even better. And of course it can’t be too expensive.

I owned a few mechanical watches and in my opinion if you seen one you seen them all. Sure a rolex is a nice looking watch with great history but ones you get past that it’s just another watch except you paid a lot for a watch that isn’t all that practical and doesn’t even keep good time and I’m confident I’ll get there in matter of days. Quartz watches are just way more interesting to me.

The w39 is all stainless steel.
