Choosing between dress watches

I know that people tend to follow the rule of matching leathers and metals, which I usually follow on occasion. However, I do feel that it is kinda limiting especially when my selection of formal shoes and jewelry (ring and glasses) are limited, as well. Because of this, I hardly ever use the tank in the first photo (which was a gift from my mom -- it used to be hers, but she gave it to me upon moving back to vancouver). Sometimes, I also think that it may be too small since it is a vintage woman's watch. Either way, I still love it and wear it on occasion, but my wife gets to use it more, which is awesome!

Also, having this King Seiko 45-7001 (and a bunch of straps for it) also results in always gracitstibg towards it for dresssy events. Having a great dress timepiece readily available and highly adaptable really works in its favor.

I have a wedding to attend tomorrow and will be wearing a Barong Tagalog -- I wonder what I'll end up wearing!

If yall have any insight or suggestions, lmk! Peace

Cartier is a bit too small for you so go with GS.

I Am leaning towards seiko (as I always do), but I may end up wearing my citizen too 😅

Had a Tank Solarbeat and loved the size. Gave it to my mum though. Will I replace it?

I vote for yes as long as you can cough up the money ✌️

Yeah, I think the AD wants me to as well.

Citizen imho fits perfect (because of the dark dial).

Will consider it, though I am leaning towards the seiko. I think the citizen would work with a suit, but given that I'll be wearing a barong (see pic), I thunk the KS could be a good fit

I would expect this to be the other way around, that the large watch with the black band is less practical.

The coordinating leather thing I generally agree with, albeit generally not mixing black and brown is enough. The metals "rule" is too petty to bother with, especially for something as small as a ring.

Even though I think the Cartier's band is great, you're free to change it.

Thanks for the input! Troo, I can consider changing the strap maybe down the line!

Actually both the Tank and the Seiko would fit well with the barong imo. Mind you I'm not a fashion plate myself so take what I say with lots of salt (and some antacids to help with the puckering feel in your stomach).

The Seiko would go colour-wise but the Tank would give your ensemble a more sartorial old school elegance. But you do you and I'm sure whatever you pick it would look good. 👍

i always obsessed with square watch so tank it is

Love the rotary! Thinking of maybe getting the vario versa down the line. This tank feels delicate (it is vintage) and a little small for me

Hope you get it. It is also an awesome watch too

When in doubt go for the Tank I always say. It's not too small in my opinion. But I like 'em small (that's what she said).

Going foe the ks today, but I have like 5 other weddings in the next 3 months so the tank will def get some wrist time too! As suggested by others, I'll probably get another strap for it. You can never have enough straps :))

Your Mom's Cartier is fantastic. That Seiko is a strapmoster, I think pretty much anything goes. The entire strapmonster concept is a bit elusive for me but a big thing with many. Certain watches tend to lend themselves to flexibility for sure. As for me, I tend to find one combination I like on a piece and leave it that way pretty much forever.

I have a few watches whose combos I never change, but there are a few watches I own that I do love to play around with and this KS ia definitely one of them

Luckily I have like 4 watches w 19mm lugs so it gives me enough reason to jave a collection of 19mm straps and bracelets

If it were me, I’d wear the Cartier. The King Seiko is a very nice watch (a coworker has one), but the Cartier is a classic dress watch.

Love the strap combo! I actually have a similar strap for my KS. I decided to go w the KS for today, but I Will probably be wearing the tank for a wedding in a couple.of weeks!

Don't know where is the problem, you wear KS and your wife Cartier

Great idea tbh! Thanks!

As do I, actually. I just sometimes feel that the gold clashes w my silver accessories (I know nobody cares, but I do, at times :)) ) it will get some wrist time in a few of the many weddings I have to attend in the next months

Imho a black non-tapering band on the Cartier would be fire. The black non-tapering strap would add wrist presence and match both the barong buttons and black pants while the gold tone Cartier case would play well off of the Barong embroidery. Layering yet another memory on to your Mother's watch would be a bonus. As always though Your Wrist Your Rules. Do You.

Will definitely consider that too! Great idea for future reference. Thank u!

If you can change the brown strap of the Cartier to black, sakto na pare.

Punta ka lang sa mall mamaya, and to a shop selling straps. For sure you'll find one that will fit the Cartier. Bukas pa naman wedding mo eh, may time pa. ;)

Ngayon na actually :)) pero magsstay ako out of town til Tues! It's veen a while since I night straps from a mall shop, I usually have them made by leathercraft manila or order online. Though, maganda nga to see it in person too. Pagbalik ko nalang siguro.

Have fun sa meetup tomorrow! 🫶

Got the watch for my asawa and she lets me wear it from time to time. Got this strap so I could wear it since the strap for her is way too small for me!
