Wow!! Zenith Chronomaster Original

Zenith just got a dealer in town, so I made plans to go visit and see them in real life.

Tried on the Chronomaster Sport, but it didn’t fully work for me. Too glossy with the ceramic bezel. The Chronomaster Original however was an instant hit.

The raised crystal and 38 mm size helps bring home a slightly vintage look and feel, while it at the same time feels like a very modern watch.

The tricolor subdials look great in photos, but their readability suffers a bit. The black dial with white subdials really knocks it out of the park for me.

The 1/10th of a second movement is also very interesting and nicely decorated with a see-through caseback.

My initial reaction is that I’m not the biggest fan of the bracelet, luckily it looks great on straps.

Have you tried one of these on And have thoughts to share?

I tried one on and it felt great in 38mm . I loved the raised crystal. To me, only Rolex makes good feeling bracelets.  Maybe more of a out than their watches these days. This watch begs for a great strap!

I can ”unfortunately” compare it to a better bracelet on my 12-series Submariner, so it’s just my baseline being skewed.

The locking mechanism was a bit finicky, and to me the PCLs are a bit too formal. It’s a lovely watch anyways and it looks even better on straps.

They’ve done a really, really good job on this! Wears just about perfect on my wrist in 38mm

I tried all of them but ended up getting the 'Revival Shadow'. It just blew my mind away the moment I wore it.

I can imagine! Haven’t seen that in real life yet, but it looks really good in photos.

I've heard the same story about the metal straps being low quality, better leather! Check out the Zenith A385, think it's a better overall watch and not as expensive.

Tried on the chronomaster sport a few days ago and really liked it. But may be a bit too modern for me and I’m hesitant on the 41mm size.        Can’t seem to find a 38 original to try on but plan to keep looking.

what size wrist do you have?

also, how was the legibility on the subdials with the smaller case size?

Sounds like the 38 would work well. I have 18 cm/a hair over 7in, so I find that to be very versatile.

I tried this on in a store, so didn’t pur it to the test. One of the subdials on the tricolor was a bit difficult to read, but the other was great and I had no issues while trying it on. Your real life mileage might vary though.
