Two Seikos from the 70s finally refurbished

This took way longer than I ever thought. But I finally got the time to fix the faulty button on the second watch today and was able to reassemble it. Now, after deep cleaning, new crystals, polishing, lots of fails and lost tiny parts, I have two beautiful Seiko A159 from 1978 and 1979. One has still the old jangly bracelet it came with, the other one has a new bonklip, which I rather like. Feeling a little proud after cleaning the desk and wearing my two digital watches.

Thanks, @CadeStingle inspired me to do this after showing his cool watches!

Great work 👍

Very cool! These models remind me of my childhood. My dad used a gold Seiko digital quartz for years.

I have an early one my father wore and gave to me in 1981. New battery did nothing so I need to do more. I'm glad to see someone do this. I'll likely try to locate a working module and just replace it. How did you deal with the plastic retainer around the crystal? I have the replacement crystal but wonder how to do the replacement.

There are very detailed service manuals out there. I broke both crystals when I pushed them out. I just cleaned the plastic gasket and left it im there, just pushed the new crystal in very carefully. Modules are hard to find, therefore you’ll have to buy a working watch. I would open up the module and check it like it is described in the service manual. Both of my modules worked fine, also the speakers. One spring switch was broken, so I bought a NOS and fixed it. Lots of frustration, bit successful in the end.

I have a couple of digital Seiko watches. One gold and the other silver. I haven't compared both side by side (the silver one is put away and i have to dig it out) but i think they are the same. The silver one from my dad and has a display screen that is permanently black. The other has not been checked out and comes from a garage sale. I guess what i'm trying to say is,My fear of making a mistake is overriding my willingness to try. And. I like your watches and wish i was in your shoes with regards to having them both work. Good job. Very nice. Duane..........Black Diamond, WA. 98010

If you have worked on some watches ando if you do have some equipment, just giv it a try. If both watches have the same module than you could probably make one working watch out of the two. If both modules are fine than you could save both watches with a little cleaning and repair.
