Over the years I have enjoyed many spontaneous chats with strangers who noticed the watch on my wrist never more than the young staffer on a Paris river cruise that my wife arranged as a 60th birthday surprise for me and her. He was proudly sporting a yellow dial Seiko with a rubber strap that matched up with the yellow dial Breitling Avenger Seawolf that I was wearing for the trip ahead of selling to a friend on our return from Europe. There was a B boutique at one of our stops where I picked up a thick catalogue for the enthusiast, actually by the end of the pleasant trip wished that I could have gifted him my watch since he was such a fan and I was selling it anyways!

Awesome! That's the kind of story I love. I just went to lunch today with my family to celebrate my sister in-law retirement. Upon paying the tab and getting ready to leave, the waitress motioned to me and started tapping her wrist and then gave me a thumbs up. I was wearing my Omega seamster 300. I smiled all the way home!

Lool! My sis in law treated me to an extended family lunch at one of her favourite Greek restaurants for my birthday on Sunday. I was seated opposite a childhood buddy that I donโ€™t see unless she includes us both( he was my brotherโ€™s best friend) he doesnโ€™t wear a watch, I donโ€™t drink wine or any alcoholic beverages, he has a cooler in his condo that keeps 250-300 bottles. The whole lunch he is chatting about collecting wine, I am talking about watch crunch. It was great, we intend to meet again in 10 years. I love Omegas, own the white dial SMP but not happy with the price increases here in Canada.

I just found out a buddy of mine is deep into the watch world. I started " friendly" testing his watch geek cred by asking some basic" in the know info" and bam! He was true to the game!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ We talk and exchange text info 3x a day๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚! I never knew he was into watches. We've been friends for decades. Go figure....

I love these stories. When do we ever get to use or talk about all the knowledge that we have bottled up? It is cathartic to let it out.

I think that I have told this story before: I was discussing with my client a waiver of his constitutional rights. He was pleading guilty to a misdemeanor (which was a good offer, considering the original charge). I noticed that he was wearing a very large watch with cubic zirconium. I asked him what it was. He proudly explained that it was an Elgin and that he owned three of them. So, for the next ten minutes I explained his waiver of his right to trial, his right to confront the witnesses against him and to call witnesses in his defense, and his Fifth Amendment rights, and the entire history of the Elgin.

As a fairly new novice I haven't had any of these interactions, yet. I have noticed the stares at the Lume when I'm in line at the store. Only been at this a little over a year so I'm excited for were it takes me.
