I almost bought a fake Moonswatch!

I was almost scammed with a fake Moonswatch here in Hong Kong a few weeks ago! I made a video right after it happened, and just realized that this is a pervasive issue now that so many fakes from China are flooding the market.

The fake looked very convincing but having an original "Mission on Earth" Moonswatch there are a few obvious things that I can share that I hope can help people tell the difference and avoid getting scammed:

1. The chronograph on the original Moonswatch ticks like a quartz second hand, while the fake actually sweeps more like a mechanical one. It's very noticeable once you see the difference.

2. The material of the fake Moonswatch case has this more transparent look to it. A real Moonswatch made of bioceramic holds its color through out, while the fakes appear more glossy and transluscent.

3 The box of the original Moonswatch has this rough texture to the outer sleeve, while the fakes have a smooth texture. The text on the box also has this printed look on the fake, while the real ones look like the text is embedded into the paper.

4. Finally, and crazy enough, they are actually using SAPPHIRE for some of these fakes, while the real Moonswatch is using an acrylic crystal! As such, you should be able to make out small hairlines on the real Moonswatch's crystal that can be buffed out using polywatch, while the fake will look too scratch-free to be acrylic.

I hope this helps anyone out there to avoid buying a fake moonswatch when they are paying for a real one! Thanks for reading!

Sounds almost as if the fake is better than the original, sapphire glass, sweeping second ,smooth box all for 49.99 delivered to your door and available online, brilliant. Just one question will the fake make your wrist the same colour as Uranus. But seriously thanks for the info, there's folks out there who might be taken in by these.

I was sceptical when the Moonswatch was released, but I was clearly wrong. The entertainment value alone is just phenomenal! I feel nothing but gratitude towards the Swatch Group.

Yeah, these copies are spreading in Indonesia too.. I haven't looked at it in person, but I can tell that the color are more washed-out. They start at about 100 USD equivalent here and being sold as "Black Marketed Moonswatch", which is to say they're replicas.

Hehe, I actually think if you're in the market for a Moonswatch homage these Aliexpress replicas aren't too bad (and probably won't stain your wrist either!) My big issue is scammers charging regular Moonswatch prices and trying to sell these replicas as real. But honestly this just proves how low cost the Moonswatch probably actually is to produce for Swatch!

I can imagine! One of my phone dealers told me that like 90% of the listings now on our 3rd party selling sites here (Carousell and Facebook Marketplace) are all fake. These Aliexpress Moonswatch fakes are definitely flooding the market and I'm sure Indonesia is no different!
