My new Oris ProPilot X Caliber 400!

It’s just been 12 hours, but I already think this might be one of my favorite watches ever! Just got the call last night to pickup my Oris ProPilot X Caliber 400 Pink “Salmon” Dial! It was supposed to arrive in July, but I got very lucky with an early unit.

Early impressions: This watch is light! But as a result of the titanium build is effortless to wear, and the 39mm diameter case feels so nice on the wrist with enough presence and heft that you know it’s there. The case and bracelet are EXCELLENT and finished beautifully. The “LIFT“ clasp is a really creative and a nice touch.

But let’s get to the star of the show now. The salmon 🍣 dial is AMAZING 🤩 Photos don't do it justice. You really need to see this one in person to understand how this color pops. Just like any of the candy colored Rolex OPs this is a watch that makes a statement. And yet it does so without looking over-the-top as the entire dial has this minimalist and clean charm. I love it.

The movement? Nothing more than Oris’s finest. The Caliber 400 really is one of the better stories of in-house movement development of the past few years in watchmaking. Oris really took the time to develop the kind of movement that watch enthusiasts would love, and they delivered. 5 Days of power reserve and a 10 year warranty with 10 year service interval. All running at nearly COSC chronometer levels (-3/+5 seconds). I haven’t tested my unit yet, but I’m sure it will be in this range. It‘s all you could ask for with an in-house movement.

Any initial negatives? I do wish the lume markers were a bit stronger on the hours, and I don’t know if I’m in love with the boxiness of the lugs and end link. Also wondering how the all titanium bracelet and case will age, I hope this one’s not a scratch magnet!

But all in all I am SUPER happy with my purchase! There’s something about Oris as a brand that I absolutely love. They do things their own way, and don’t mind taking risks. It may not be a perfect watch, but it’s everything I love about Oris as a brand in one timepiece, and for me that’s all I need!

Thanks for the review!
This was easily one of my favorites from watches and wonders and I can’t wait to see it in person. The first word that comes to mind with everything outside of the dial feels super futuristic to me. But the color somehow doesn’t. Such an interesting combo there. I think Oris is the brand that I have changed my opinion on the most (for the positive) since I first got into watches.

Thanks! Yeah I feel the same way. I actually bought an Oris Aquis Caliber 400 last year, and loved it but I regretfully picked the wrong size for that watch 43.5 just way too big for my liking. I was kind of over the brand at that point until Watches and Wonders and this ProPilot X release, it totally proved to me that Oris is one of those brands that takes risks, and goes their own way on things. Lucky for my this 39mm size is just perfect! Hope you can see one in the metal soon!

That is the exact piece I'm contemplating to pull the trigger on by the end of this year, alongside the silver dial Propilot X. They are AMAZING pieces! Its in the contention with a Tudor BB pro which I quite like and an Omega Globemaster silver dial. Enjoy your salmon dial beauty! Class watch 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Thanks! I agree they're all beautiful no matter which one you choose.

Hi! Wonderful watch that i tried last week too. Love the size and the elegant bracelet which allow an easy fit! Did u get an extra discount?

·

Terrific watch and congratulations on the purchase. I had a look at this at the London boutique last week, very impressive watch. I’d be interested in how you get on with the bracelet particularly, generally I prefer straps and am a bit cautious over the lack of adjustment, not had that much experience with bracelets though. Oris definitely have produced something outstanding here.

I am waiting for the AD near me to get one in stock so I can go try it on!

How thin does the bracelet feel? I can imagine the titanium makes it super light, but I wonder about the wrist presence.

Thanks for this friend, you've changed my opinion of the brand!

Love the bracelet too! Definitely one of my favorite aspects of this watch. Yeah I got a pretty amazing deal for this watch, but I guess lucky being in the watch industry that made that a possibility 😅

You’re welcome! Glad to do that! I can’t think of another watch brand that deserves it more.

Thanks! Yes I am loving this bracelet a lot, but I know what you mean about lack of adjustment, a quick adjust would have been amazing, but is something you don't typically see on integrated style watches like this.

Nice! The bracelet does feel pretty thin and light, but that's part of the appeal I would say. Just feels super comfortable and hugs the wrist without feeling cumbersome. Feels great!

It’s less salmon, more candy floss.

one of my concerns is the price, really high for Oris - did you get a good deal?

It is a bit pricy for Oris, but for everything you’re getting here (all titanium build, caliber 400, 10 year warranty amazing fit and finish) I think It is totally justified. That said, yeah I got a really good deal for this watch 😅 but heck even at just 10% off I still would have bought it

Did you now manage to test your watch against the deviation range they advertise ?

My Aquis cal 400 has been sent to service / warranty to check. +10/15 spd when not sedentary, +1/3 spd when dial up. This did not make sense.

Got it back yesterday, and it seems now its behaviours is slightly different. I am still testing to see. But in 24h, the average was +6,6spd, ergo out of their promised range.

On the bench, it rates at a very fair +2spd.

I think the escapement misses some beats when I wear it.

I’ve found some marked differences between ‘on the wrist’ performance and timekeeping on a watch winder. I keep my automatics on active rotation in a winder. In general, I’ve found a number with ETA or Sellita movements (Oris, Alexander Shorokhoff) to keep better time, in spec, on the wrist, but vare on the winder. Others, like Omega and Gerard-Perregaux, are much more consistent. My GS watches, of course, don’t vary at all.

Haha thanks for the sub! Never got a Moonswatch, but not too angry anymore, I’ve just moved on 😅

·

Honestly, the moonwatchs at retail price is a good deal ;) pity that they are not enough pro to manage this launching! Next disappointment will be Tudor as they re starting waiting list same as Rolex…where is the fun?

Was in Watches of Switzerland today and tried on the grey dial, it’s a lovely watch. They were asking £3.3k, which is quite a price, but it’s very nice on. Very light. The bezel is very tactile, I like it a lot.

Recycled dialled Acquis, and the limited edition dial also in stock, really nice on. Food for thought…

·

Nice watch... Now that you have had it for some time could you share the 400 movement experience.. I have an Aquis with the same but the accuracy after being spot on for a week is now at + 14spd .... Thanks
