Is Nomos that superior?

Some time ago I began getting into the watch world without really buying them so I haven’t really owned that many watches but something I don’t quite get is why Nomos is so loved and placed above some brands like Junghans. The Junghans Max Bill is way more historic with the Max Bill design and the direct connection with the Bauhaus School. I understand that Nomos adds value because the Alpha Caliber is an in-house movement while the Junghans has a modified ETA 2824-2 movement. But really I feel like Nomos is one of the watch community’s favorite brands and I want to truly understand why. I’ve seen many people in her do own a Nomos so I would like to know, is Nomos that superior?

It’s a matter of preference between the two brands so I don’t think Nomos is necessarily superior. The question is which do you like more? Are you Team Coke or Team Pepsi?

For me, I like Nomos but also understand why Junghans has it’s fans. I had a bad experience with a Max Bill that came with scratches on the underside of the glass where any light going thru the glass would project the imperfection onto the dial.

I love both but when I tried them on my wrist, the Nomos felt superior due to finishing, design elements, and it just felt better executed in every way. Hard to explain but the Nomos just felt more “right”. The Junghans dial and domes crystal was more pronounced than I expected. I felt the Nomos balanced everything in a better way.

I think Nomos is a regional favorite that does not get much attention outside of the European market.

I don't get it either. I find the Nomos dull and really expensive for that look. I've just visited their website to see if I've missed something, and found the Lambda is ok but the hands are too thin. And it's £15k.

The Max Bill has always seemed like a more inspired design to me.

I think they're one of those brands ,like Rolex and the Bland Bay range ,that are the darlings of the YouTube reviewer that are constantly hyped and rammed down our throats 🙄

Can't stand the whole Bauhaus thing myself, tho I did like the band back in the day 🤣👍🏻

I'm a fan of the Bauhaus style, and I mostly like Nomos, but I agree with you that Max Bill's design is more inspired, not to mention the history behind it

·

It’s definitely more for style, but again I’ve waxed lyrical over the misuse of Bauhaus as a “style” for watches. Nomos are loved, so you wouldn’t be alone if you fell for them…

Yes it is superior. Take a proper look at their automatic movements.

Since I wrote this post, around 8-9 months ago, my appreciation for Nomos has increased significantly. Their movements and processes are really interesting. I see you have a lot of experience with Nomos, love that Ludwig!
