I’d just have a watchmaker install a high grade sapphire crystal with AR only on the underside. Omega doesn’t listen to its fan base at all
Have thought about this as well. Maybe I'll do it when the first service is needed.
Totally agree on that. Omega needs to listen more to their fans. I was always a huge Omega fan but lately I am more and more disappointed with what they are doing.
My SM300 is excellent, the AT better than it looks in this iffy pic.
Really dislike lack of AR coating, that's why I'll never have another Hamilton, had 3 & all were pretty much illegible in anything other than perfect conditions 🤯
Seamaster 300 only coated on the inside, guess same for the Aqua Terra, tho that's old so external may have worn off.
I get round this problem by disliking and avoiding black dials which I usually find morbid and depressing.
It’s ironic that black dialled dive watches are so popular today, but they’re worst affected by sapphire’s terrible light transmission characteristics.

For watches with sapphire I stick to white dials.
Black and acrylic FTW!
I think it also depends on what colour/metal the hands are. It’s all about the contrast!

This is not my most expensive watch but does have the best crystal
I actually hate the AR coating on the outside of the crystal. It's hardness is nowhere near the level it needs to be.
My SMP300 crystal looks like a cheap mineral glass due to the applied coating.
I'm happy Omega decided to only coat the underside of the crystal for the 3861 Speedy.
After my experience with the SMP300 I try to avoid crystals that are coated on both sides.

Agree, wouldn't want AR on the outside either

Can you post a picture of the scratched AR? I didn’t consider this. 🧐
Love this PO!

Will do this when I wear it the next time.
Maybe I'll also do a post about this topic in the future.
This Raymond Weil has the best sapphire+AR of any of my 100+ watches.
