Reflection of my watch collecting habit over the years.

This is currently my SOTC at the moment. At the start, I've never had a preference towards any particular brand.

Looking back since my first watch purchase over the years, I've come to realise that I adore Japanese brands probably because they represent these 2 main ideas to me-

  • Watch collecting is attainable at any income level

  • An average working man's watch can be as good as a posh gentleman's watch.

Don't get me wrong. Swiss-made and releases from other parts of the world are superb and amazing in their own right.

Who knows, I'll probably let go some of this and an Omega or a Breguet (or even a Rolex) might make it to this little tray of mine in the future. But one thing is for sure, that mighty little SKX in the middle will always stay to remind me where I started.

Edited. Cheers!

I totally agree that you don't need to go high end, now more than ever with microbrands and some of the Chinese having much improved quality and mechanical movements. I've got a handful of Russian watches that started my collection. I now have some Swiss but I still enjoy wearing the early purchases, they're not going anywhere, like my £15 hand-wind Pobeda (running at +10/+20).

Loving your collection ❤️

I had the SKX and sold it, got it for about £100, big regret!

The Seiko 38.5 solar is a VASTLY underated watch. Good choice!

Just for fun I wanted to see how cheaply I could create a basic three piece collection consisting of a field, diver and a daily watch that would look good either dressed up or casual.

With luck (and patience!) I put together a trio of preowned mechanical Seiko's, all from online sources for just $205!!!

(Seiko 7009-8139 "Dress/Casual" $55 from LiveAuctioneers, Seiko SNK807 "Field" $65 from OfferUp and Seiko SRP773 "Blue Turtle Diver" $85 from eBay.)

Add a new Casio Royale for $35 and now it's a four piece collection with World Time and chronograph features for a total of just $240 without resorting to off brand or junkier watches.

I've been considering an inclusive low budget thread where Crunchers post their most economical collections. Does that sound like fun to anyone else or am I just being way too tight?
